On Friday night I took a nice mature doe. It was extremely quiet out. Very little wind. But, I delivered a good hit, very little tracking....

Last Night I decided to take my best friend and hunting partner out with me. We usually hunt the same property but have never sat together. I have had great succes, the last several years. Our property is piled with deer. My buddy has yet to harvest a deer with his bow. So last night, I took it on my shoulders to help him with his first bow deer.

The weather was perfect. A shifting wind from the north and west. But, perfect for the set up. A constant wet snow. I had a spot picked out on the edge of a travel route in the middle of a huge opening, between the bedding area and standing corn. The ambush point consisted of a small knoll covered in grass 8 yards from the trail. (nothing like in your face action)

Well the sit was long and wet. We saw a lot of movement but well out of range. With about 45 minutes left of shooting light ,5 does left the bedding area and headed down the trail towards us. At about 45 yard out the does for some reason, turned and headed back into the bedding area. Both my buddy and I were dissapointed.

10 minutes later I saw movement from the same trail. I watched. My buddy was a little cold at this time and was trying to warm his hands up. 1 single doe headed our way. I glassed her to make sure it wasn't a button buck. Then I whispered to Jamie to grab his bow. I think he was a little surpised as he hadn't seen the deer coming down the trail. He picked his bow up and asked me if I had seen another deer. I smiled and pointed. The doe was 15 yards away and walking right into the trap. He drew back and she walked right on in.

I heard the snap of the bow as he released. The doe just took off. I didn't see the hit. Jamie leaned over and told me he thought he missed. We watched her make a loop back toward the way she came. She made about 60 yards and stopped to look back. Then she hit the dirt.

He hit her with a perfect broad side double lung shot at 8 yards from the ground. Talk about an awesome hunt. My buddy got his first bow harvest. I got to witness it, and help him do it. The only thing that could have been better is if I could have videoed it.

Stay tuned pics to follow and Friday is part 2. My little brothers first hunt with his big bro. I'm hoping for the same type of results......except maybe a video and some antlers!!! I will be his first deer ever. I'm stoked.

Stay tuned!!!!:gun_bandana:
