OHBucks
Ok, so I am going to take one upcomming Friday off of work to get a chance to spend a whole weekend in my treestand. Been seeing alot of big bucks but I haven't been able to hunt as much as I would like. So my question is I am hunting in Ohio which would you feel would be the better weekend. The weekend of Oct. 30th or the weekend of Nov. 6th? I originally picked the 6th because there is a full moon the previous Monday and that first week in November usually is a pretty decent one. What do you think? Thanks guys
92xj
Nov 6th.
PaBowhunter00
It's actually a tough call, Oct 30 and Nov 6 are both good dates, but I think you might have some better luck on Oct 30, since the weather has been consistently cold, I feel the rut is going to start about a week or two early this year. There has already been talk of bucks running some does, but I think it'll be another week or so for the does to be ready.
dartonman
Going with November 6th....only because I checked all my records for the last 14 years.....and Im in Illinois, and on average according to my records, I have harvested 92% of my bucks on or two days before November 7th., and I had hunted hard all through October. Hope this helps. al
jdavis
I'm actually going to be taking a long weekend as well and I can't decide on the 30th or the 6th either. I keep going back a forth, depending on how much of a heads up you need to give I'd wait and check the weather. I think that's what I'm going to do. Tony
i know its not tradition, but i prefer the last weekend in Oct. for some reason here in Iowa i can see a lot more bucks cruising and receptive to calling and rattling at that time. once they get a nose full of doe, they wont leave her for nothing. either weekend should be good for you, but pick the one that is going to have the best weather. nothing sucks worse than scheduling time to go hunting and then have it rain the whole time. MNcrittergittr
Both weekends are great and have the potential to be great for ya. If I had to choose, my vote is for Nov. Good luck!
Rhino
I'd go with Nov. 6th but...if you have the flexibility to make your choice close to the time you take off, I'd check the weather forecast for which day looks best.
Tominator
Nov 6th. Yup
ruttinbuc
The weekend of the 6th coincides with the 3 days after the full moon theory. OCTOBER 2009 2 3 4 5 6
Master_Chief
The 6th. I happen to be going to Pa for the last week and leaving Va Beach on the 8th to hunt that entire week. Was in the same quandary as to which week. Good luck.
OHBucks
thanks guys. Yeah the 6th was the date I had originally picked. I didn't know if that previous Monday being a full moon would mess it up but I have read in numerous articles that the time change as well as the full moon has a tendancy of really triggering the rutting activity. I think what I will do is fill the vacation form out for the 6th and if the weather looks bad I'll just go to work that Friday and see if I can take off that Monday instead.
