LETMGROW
I have been using 777 for quite a few years now and have never experienced any misfires. This year though a friend of mine bought a new box of .50 pellets and when he tried to sight in his gun he had several misfires. The powder simply went poof and really dirtied up the barrel. We all came up with a large number of reasons but aren't satisfied with any one of them. This past week I bought a box of 777 from another dealer to use myself. The first couple shots went off well, then I had a misfire. A couple more normal shots and the next shot just didn't sound right. I sounded like maybe one pellet ignited and the other didn't. The next shot produce only a faint pop. After removing the breech plug I found both pellets totally intact. The bullet was laying unharmed no more than six feet from the muzzle's end and the sabot was still in the barrel. Both dealers we bought powder from sell a lot of it and I have been assured it wasn't old stock. I have fired 777 that was three years old with no problems. Has anyone else had or heard of a problem like this? P.S. yes the barrel was cleaned and dried between each shot. The breech plug was dried out with compressed air before loading each time. VermontHunter
I've always used 777 pellets without incident , infact myself and my father-in-law both just bought a new batch each and didn't have a problem .. I've never used compressed air to dryout a breech plug or the barrel, I've always just dry fired a primer down the barrel. Are you sure it's the pellets and not the primers ?? I've had problems with certian types of primers in the past .. I would get some Winchester primers and go from there .. Good luck I hope you figure out the problem .. LETMGROW
We are using Fusion Muzzleloader primers. I switched back to the older style pellets and fired 10 rounds without a problem. Since my post we have narrowed the bad pellets to the front row of the box and the left side. Some of the double stacked pellets actually stuck together after removing them from the box. The boxes in question were both sealed when we bought them. VermontHunter
Seems they were exposed to moister at the time of manufacturing .. Still not good, in any event. Never tried the Fusion Primers ,, how do you like them ?? I use the Fusion Ammo in my .270 and love them ..
LETMGROW
So far so good on the primers. They do appear to burn a little cleaner, I was going to try one of the Winchesters I have been using to compare but got so frustated I quit shooting when I found the other powder worked ok. By the way, I shot a 131# doe opening day at 68 yards. No misfire! Would I have been PI----? Lynn
