Firm believer in doing your scouting, being scent-free and placing yourself where the deer's gonna be on its own.

I've had roughly 3 times more deer spooked by lure scents (of many different brands) applied as per the directions on the bottle than I've had positive results.

I'm spending no more $$ and taking no more chances.

As for scents...I've had good luck with 'ol drop tine (doe to door). Won't find it in the stores...internet or phone call.

On the other side...I've never used any scents during gun season in PA. Deer seem to just be running for cover and not too concerned about scents.

Archery...I use scents toward the end of Oct. till the end of the season.

Gun...I do the Strut plan...scout and put myself in the "right" place and don't worry about scents.

Seems like I have tried em all and it seems they all work sometimes on the deer you dont want to shoot and never on the big guys you do want to shoot.

That is the truth! With the amount of people that take to the woods on the first two days of rifle season, scents are going to do you little good unless you are on private land that has few people hunting it. Too many PA hunters can't sit still and tromp through the woods making everything into an uproar.
