pointing_dogs_rule
Hi guys: First off, I just love taking kids hunting for their first time. Iowa has these great youth seasons that get the kids out there!! Nothing like being in the woods with a kid that has never hunted before. This kid is Blake. His parents own a local dairy farm and do not hunt. Blake listens to everything that I tell him while hunting and he never complains, or whines, or gets figgity. He's just a great kid to hunt with. I took him out for the Iowa youth turkey season and we had a few come close. however, a shot never presented itself. Well, the youth deer season went just about as well. Nothing close enough until the last day when he missed a 4 point at 50 yards with a shotgun slug. Well, blackpowder season started on Saturday and we both had licenses so I took him out last night..... nothing until 10 minutes before shooting hours closed. This buck shows up at 60 yards. He emerges from behind a bush that is in front of us. I can see him and move Blake into position on my side of the Double Bull 360 blind. The buck hears some noise, as we were re-positioning and looks at us. He then turns and walks towards the other side of the bush. Knowing this I had already positioned Blake for the shot. He put the cross-hairs on the buck as he looks at the Double Bull still trying to figure out what we are. Blakes shoots and the 10 point buck drops right in his tracks. Because of all the smoke I did not see him drop..... but Blake says "I GOTTEM". Now I must explain this: the "I GOTTEM" was more of a disbelief statement as he was surprised that he hit him. I will always remember that statement. As the smoke clears I can see the 10 point on the ground. I have never see a double lung shot deer (no spine hit) drop that fast and died that quickly. Used a Remington Genesis with 85 grains of Triple Seven and Thompson Center super glide sabots 300 grain. He wants to get the deer mounted .... so if you have any work Blake is looking for extra cash!!! PS: SORRY TEAM #20... LETHAL INJECTION. THATS 15 POINTS LOST BUT IT WAS WORTH A LIFETIME OF MEMORIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Blake and his trophy. Blake and me. Good luck to all the dog
