cflhunter
Not gonna make it this year...but at least I can dream. What's hunting been like recently for the Illinois crew? Things should be heating up real soon!
backwoods07
First weekend - Saw some pretty decent movement, all does. Weather was abnormally cool for this time of year. Able to harvest one doe. Second weekend - Movement was similar to the first weekend. Again, really cold. We had our first frost. Saw one or two small bucks walking around. I was able to get a shot at a 150" bruiser, but never recovered him. Third weekend - Absolutely dead. No movement at all. It only took em two weeks to figure us out! Sorry you won't be able to make it this year! You're really not missing too much as of now.
layin on the smackdown
For the state, it has been great...Harvest numbers are super high for the first two weeks of the season. On a personal level, my season has been cursed. I have a problem with not seeing many does at all, just wanna kill one for the freezer...BUT, i have seen all kinds of young bucks and have been getting trail cam pics of some decent bucks (130's). Then my D loop broke half way through my draw on sunday afternoon which sent my bow flying out of my hands...as far as i can tell nothing has been bent, but i haven't had a chance to make it to a pro shop yet....SO long story short, hunting has been great for many in IL, but for me....well, i have had better starts to every other season... fly
Deer movement was OK the first week, then nothing! I have not seen a deer in my past 4 hunts over the last 2 weeks. Corn and beans are still up in a lot of places due to the heavy rains. I'm thinking things will start getting hot some time next week. when most of the fields are harvested and the pre-rut chimes in. Wishful thinking that most of the corn/beans will be harvested. It's going to be LATE LATE LATE this year. I wouldn't be surprised if there's standing corn in areas heading in to middle November. Ya Backwoods, but bud you gotta remember, Fly is way down south, their crops make it in earlier and come out earlier...Heck when i use to live down there, most all crops were out by now. I'd imagine most crops down there in central and southern IL are out (especially beans) or are in the process of getting picked as we speak. Weve got beans coming out right now where im at, but this just started pretty recently. I am guessing that our corn will start getting picked towards the end of this month....but i do agree on the idea that there will still be standing corn into late november...and it will probably be the corn field i have two stands on... MUDRUNNER
It's been slow for me so far too. I have yet to see a buck, and haven't had a doe closer than 50 yards yet. I hunt in Madison, Bond, and Montgomery counties, and I would say less than 10% of the crops are out. The farmers got going Monday, but a ton of rain is expected tommorow, so that will slow them down for a few more days.
