Rhino
One of my closest friends had spent the week at our camp with his 13 year old son (Kyle) and one of his buddies (Chipper). The boys were on fall break. Chipper is a wired all the time if you get my drift. My buddy's words were it was more like baby sitting all week with him constantly having to pick up after them.:helpsmilie: A cool front moved through and since I was going to hunt in the morning he decided to sleep in with another friend of mine. No problem I had the boys covered for him. Both boys hunted ladder stands on food plots near me while I climbed in a hang on stand near a crossing with oaks and a honey locust tree within easy bow range. About 7:45 Kyle starts calling his dad on the radio. I answered "your dad is probably still in bed". Kyle proceeds to start asking me about other stands he could go hunt since he hadn't seen anything yet. Patience grasshopper...hang in there...it's still real early. At 8:00 a doe approaches. She passes and stops in an opening less than 15 yards from me. I send my arrow right through the boiler house. Smoked her good. OK should be an easy tracking and recovery job. I ease out to my cart and head back to camp which isn't a half mile away to change into my tracking/dragging cloths. When I arrive at the camp my 2 buddies are sitting on our back porch drinking coffed so I join them for a coffed break and share my short story. A minute later Kyle calls on the radio. He just smacked a doe.:cool2: We are listening to him talk to Chipper. Chipper's excited now...he's fired up and says he's staying until 10:30. We high 5 on the back porch over Kyle's kill. Kyle's doe didn't make it out of the food plot. We tell Kyle to come back to the camp and let Chipper hunt. A few minutes later Chipper calls on the radio. He justed smacked a doe too.:cool2: Kyle's dad tells Chipper we are on the way...stay in the stand till we get there. Yea...right. A minute later Chipper calls...I got good blood. Kyle's dad's response...what did I tell you. Chipper's response...I don't know. I'm LMBO. Like most boys...he has selective hearing. Better get to Chipper 1st. He's liable to take off through the woods and get lost. Kyle meets us there. A short tracking job in a briar thicket to Chipper's doe and the boys drag her out while I clear out briars ahead of them. Another short tracking job to my doe and easy drag. We drove right up to Kyle's doe. We high 5 again after loading the last doe. Gotta love the excitement of young boys on a morning like that. Needless to say they delivered a lot of smack talk to the other 3 adult hunters when they came in empty handed. Sorry no pics but....:toot::toot::toot: 3 does down! redkneck
That's great, Al! I'm ready to put a few more down myself if I can just keep these pesky small rack bucks away! That's all I've seen lately is bucks!

Rhino
I'm ready to put a few more down myself if I can just keep these pesky small rack bucks away! That's all I've seen lately is bucks! John...I was having the same problem until Saturday afternoon when a 130 class 9 point showed himself at 6:00. Every buck I'd seen since I killed the 5.5 year old velvet buck on 10/3 had been 1.5 and 2.5 year old bucks until then. The 9 point never got inside the 85 yard line in a 3 acre food plot. I built a natural ground blind Sunday morning with the help of some younger hunters (early 20's) so they would have a crack at him while I'm running around the midwest. If the wind's right and he does the same thing, one of them should have an opportunity inside the 30 yard line. I hope to have some pics of that buck with their hands wrapped around his antlers before I complete my swing through the midwestern states.
