I could use some help with fundraising

I have always believed that outdoor sportsmen (and women) participate more in community events and organizations than other folk. Whether it is helping out at a church BBQ or volunteering to be a scout leader, most of us donate some of our time to something. Right now I am the Grand Knight of our local Knights of Columbus Council. Over the past 5 years we have had to change the way we do fundraising for several reasons that I will not go into. Regardless our funds have dwindled and so has our membership because we are not out and about like we used to. We have been brainstorming for new ideas amongst ourselves with no luck. So now I am trying to explore new and different ways to raise funds for my Council. I was hoping to pick your brains for any ideas you may have. What is something different that your club or organization does to raise money? If we use your idea, you will receive a special reward from me. Thanks in advance, Joe

I know several of the Churches in our area use to do a car bash. Have someone donate an old car (and other items like fridges) and take it to a central location. Allow people to beat on the car with their choice of a sledge hammer, ball bat, pipe, etc. for so much a wack.

Sounds kind of silly but ive seen LONG lines at a few of those. After that you can sale the car for junk iron. It isnt bringing much after the cfc program but it will still bring a little.

Dont forget about a good old fashon turkey shoot either.... Thanksgiving is comming up soon. You might get a pretty good draw if you give away turkeys... ;)

have a bake sale. naa, that's been done before. lol

how about having a carnival come to town some warm summer week. try for an early week, like late may or june. most carnivals attract lots of folks and you'll get a % of the take. or, hire the carnival at a set price and sell all the tickets yourself, keeping all the profits.

We raised $3,500 a few months back at the FD selling chicken plates. It pays off big time when you get the folks to donate stuff, like the styro plates were donated, someone else donated the beans, pot salad, and the town paid for the chicken, which we got really deep discounts on through a connection. Basically every dollar we took in went to an individual that had an aneurism (sp?) and had been in the hospital for many weeks. Cookouts work great, but you have to stretch every dollar you can on the food and drinks to maximize the profits.

Our church and another FD near here use a guy in town that is SUPER with his commercial smoker. We get $20 bucks for an awesome boston butt, and make about 8 bucks on each one, and nobody has to cook!

Kind of late in the year, but when I was on the sheriff's dept. I would do the fund raising for our deputies assoc. We would sponsor a golf tournament. Basically we approached local business's to be hole sponsors $50 or $100 per hole, more if you can get it. Also team price would be $200 to $400 per team. which included price for cart their meal and prize money. The green fees were donated by the course. We also had one large raffle item that we sold tickets on for a few months prior to the golf tourney. (A Mario Lemeau jersey). Then during the meal we would draw the winner. Also several local business's donated prizes for the event. We had two vehicles for hole in one prizes. Would raise over $5000 after expenses.
