SuperMn106
I was awaken at 4 am this morning by a pain in my side/back area. I get up and use the restroom and lay back down. It still hurts. I get back up and take some tylenol. Get back up at 6:30 and get ready for work, about 8:30 I have had enough. I could not handle it anymore. As I am on my way to the doc office the pain stops and I get the urge to urinate. I get there and get the cup for a test sample and as I am giving a sample I see and feel a stone come out! Ouch!! Yep a kidney stone. That is some pain I tell you. I hope never to have one again.

wtnhunt
No fun, they can be a bit painful. Had kidney stones a couple summers ago and it was pretty uncomfortable, luckily it only lasted about 10 hours for me. Have heard that they can be comparable to womens labor pains. One of my wife's coworkers, another nurse, told her for me to drink baking soda and a lot of water. Did not try it so don't know if that works or not. wtnhunt
Told you that to get rid of them or to prevent them? To get rid of them, but if I was given accurate information it should work for both. Supposedly baking soda helps break down the stones or prevent them, something to do with the uric acid I think if I remember right. However I think there are different kinds of stones and not sure I would try that without asking a physician first.

It is my understanding that dairy products contribute to the kidney stones in a large way....may be time to give it up....hope you don't have to go thru that again
Tominator
Been there. 3 or 4 times. No fun for sure. Drink more, and it wouldn't be a bad idea to go to the doc and have him/her draw your PTH and calcium. http://www.labtestsonline.org/understanding/analytes/pth/test.html
Tominator
It is my understanding that dairy products contribute to the kidney stones in a large way....may be time to give it up....hope you don't have to go thru that again Hyper levels of calcium can cause stones, that's how I got them, but your body should be able to regulate your calcium levels if you like dairy. If not, it could mean your parathyroids need some medical attention. To get rid of them, but if I was given accurate information it should work for both. I think the uric acid types are pretty common in men because they don't drink enough.
ruttinbuc
My brother suffers miserably with kidney stones. I hope you are feeling better and don't have a chronic condition.
SuperMn106
Thanks for all the well wishes guys. I am feeling 100% better. The doc is sending the stone off to get tested to what caused it. I do not know how to describe the pain but I have broken bones and been hooked with fishing hooks in the head and arm and nothing comes close to it. buckee
Doesn't sound like fun at all. I know how painful it is for a guy to give birth to foreign objects. So what did you name the little rascal?
The_Kat
I only saw my dad cry twice in his lifetime....when he was in the Trauma center after his wreck and they lifted his broken shoulder over his head and when he had a kidney stone. No thanks!
sluggunner
Glad that is over for you. Isn't is amazing how something so small can cause so much pain? I never had one and from what I hear about them I hope I never do.

A lot of people think the pain comes from the actual stone, but the pain comes from the stone blocking the urine which distends the kidney, that's where the pain comes from. The actual passing feels weird, but doesn't hurt all that much.

Yeah, when I gave birth to those 5 radiation seeds all strung together in a strand, it sure was painful. :helpsmilie::jaw:

Look at it this way, if you ever develop a stone, there's solace in knowing it won't hurt like your radiation seeds.
