problem with a muzzleloader

Recommended Posts

I got ya, I'm assuming you were cleaning it right...and there is prob a patch on the end of it too. I'm not sure what bore cleanner you you but I use number 13, Just put the tip of the bore cleaner bottle on the end of the ram rod and start running some cleaner down the rod and into the barrel to wet the area..

might even run some warm water down it if you dont have bore cleaner

If it's not a stuck patch let me know

do you have a patch in it?....if so I whould bet the patch will come out with rod. ALSO, If i'm correct your gun is a side lock, you should be able to unscrew the port the nipple attaches to, the patch chould be hung on that.

It's shouldn't be a serious issue, if the patch and rod just wont come out and you try water, turn the barrel upside down and drain it, then go pick up some cleaner if you want to try that, but if it is a stuck patch and warm water wont break it free, then you might have it snagged on the nipple port(if that makes sense), happened to me with my old sidelock.

and once it's out go ahead and give it another cleaning to make sure all the water is out.

OH and welcome to the forums

ok, just go stright to the warm water or if you want to wait and go get cleaner you can do that too but if you wet the patch, it'll come out for ya.

I cant belive that the port and barrel are one piece, I had a hawkens and that had notches so you chould put a wrench on it, but ok go to the cleaner or warm water.

I dont know how much water or cleaning solution you put down it but try this fill the bottom half of the barrel with the cleaning solution and let it sit for say a an hour or so, cause it sounds like it's locked out and if the patch was wet it might have gotten a little fussed to the crud in the barrel, Then try pullin on it and you might want to try putting it in a vise to pull, I whould say lock the rod in the vice...tightly and twist the gun so it makes the rod rotate, just make sure you dont rotate it so the cleaning head unscrews from the rod. I whouln't take it to the shop just yet.

Man if you put that water down the barrel and have not gotten it out yet I would strongly suggest taking your ml in somewhere and getting it out so you can properly get that barrel cleaned and dried out. Since you already had the water in there a little dish soap might have helped things slip. Personally I probably would have used some type of lube like break free clp or rem oil or something rather than using water in the first place. Good luck.

TC sell breech pullers. I've never had to do that, because I've always been able to break the patch free. What the guys are tellin ya to do works! And I use a pair of vice grips around a rag at the top of the rod and pull fer all ya iz worth. It does come out. Sounds like ya got a ring of crap built up where is just gets to a narro point, which is why it ain't movin, but keep workin that rod up and down and add more liquid (use some dish soap) and that'll loosen the crud ting and then use a brsuh on the bore and get that stuff out of there. In the future, beware cuz it'll happen again. Y need to swabo the bore inbetween your shots, or in between every third shot to stop that from happening, so when you go and clean it, it'll be better and ya won't get the patch stuck like that again.:hammer1:
