RangerClay
Just got a text from Tim. They are heading out sonn. It is very chilly with a 17 degree wind chill factor. I asked him last night if there was any rut activity and he said no.
stevebeilgard
clear skies today. there should be some activity. it will be another 10-15 days before the rut really kicks in. mid november to the 5th of december is the hot time. Dawg
From Tim: New deer total=21 doe and 4 bucks. Did more glassing, one of the bucks was a mid 120 class whitetail. We're getting closer.
jm23494
I got things worked out with Tim and got a few texts from him. He stated that they are still moving around and glassing well off the roads. They are going to be trying for whitetails tonight (if I understand the text correctly). stevebeilgard
it's a good day for hunting, and i have my hopes up for tim. tonight a storm is suppose to blow in, so the deer should be grazing most of the day. yea.
Dawg
Tim says he is back on the river. He forgot his shooting sticks and was going to go back and get them but there is a doe feeding next to him.

toddyboman
Well I just got off the phone with Tim......he said with the time difference he thought it would be safe calling me in the Midwest. He seemed a bit frustrated......He was told the land they are hunting was over ran with whitetail......Tim said this is far from the case. So they have decided to scrap the whitetail and only try for the mulies. His buddy really wants to tag a good mulie so that is Tim's priority. IT could be challenging however since the other hunters that are hunting the land drive the roads and never leave there vehicles. Tim said they where going to stay persistent. They were on there way to town for a bit to eat and a change of scenery. Hope tomorrow is the day for them! Sounds like they are due for some good luck!! wyohunter
muleys are so used to the road hunters, they just hunker down and let them drive right on past, if they push the coulee's they will jump some deer....

MCH
From Tim: 3rd day.....we scrapped whitetails for trip....we were wasting our time....all out mule deer now!!

RangerClay
Text from Tim. 7 does and 1 buck. VERY windy. He asked his buddy if he wanted to leave but he said wants to try some more. He has been to MT. four times and has never seen such a low deer density (mule deer too). If he was hunting alone, he would be home by now. Edited October 27, 2009 by RangerClay

whitetailtrax
I'm curious why they went the opening week of rifle season and not later when the rut is in full swing. Anybody know? Can he go back later? Hope they can find something now or can get back later when the action picks up.
The_Kat
Another tough day. A few doe small bucks frustrated! Well will keep plugging along. Thanks for putting up with this boring hunt. Tims latest
stevebeilgard
keep at it, tim. get as far off the road as you can. with the crummy weather hunt the south side, close to the bottom. if the sun pops out, they will be up grazing in it sunning themselves, and out of the wind.
