MichiganHunter
I have NOT shot a deer YET with my .44 I just bought it this year but I did about a years worth of bullet reserch and determined the .44mag was/is a terific round for deer, it's actually a very commonly reccommend round for bear and I determined that if it's good for bear it going to be great for deer. GO FOR IT, oh i'm using hornady lever evolution and they seam to fly good.

Jeramie
Keep the shots close and it will be deadly. My dad hunts with a Henry chambered in .357. It will get the job done.... Just make sure you buy or reload a hunting grade bullet.
RangerClay
Are you talking rifle or pistol? Hornady makes a LeveRevolution bullet in 44 mag. I've killed deer with my 45 colt.
Texan_Til_I_Die
I've got a Marlin lever action in 44 mag and I've killed a couple of deer with it. I use a pretty hot handload with 240 gr jacketed softpoints. I self impose a maximum range of 100 yards.
Hoosierbuck
The .44 Mag is a great deer round within it's range limitations. Mine is fond of taking multiple deer out of a group and dropping them within sight. It does it every year. I have a 4x Leupold scope on a Wichester 94. It is also mondo effective on squirrels, even giant Indiana fox squirrels. The exit wound from cheap Winchester White Box 240 grainers: Two does shot within 30 seocnds of each other: The .44 und der sqvorles: HB Edited October 23, 2009 by Hoosierbuck
just-an-illusion
My father in law has killed many deer with a Ruger semi auto 44 mag rifle. 2 of which were a 8 point and a 10 point. Both were in the 200 lb range and both dropped in their tracks. I have a Ruger super blackhawk in 44 mag, but havent killed a deer with it yet. He was shooting the white box Winchesters until somebody broke into his house and stold all of his guns and food. I shoot Winchester Platinun tips. Good luck this hunting season and GOD BLESS
