WE NEED DRY WEATHER TO GET THESE DARN CROPS OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is killing me right now...

That's a big problem this year in my opinion.

I'm still thinking the chasing phase of the pre-rut will start any day now, but has not started where I hunt on the south/central and Western part of IL. If it has they are all running in the corn fields where I can't see them.:D

Forecast is dry tomorrow and I'm going to be out. I'll be very disappointed if I don't see any movement tomorrow.

ok a little update from me, went out sunday and found a few more rubs, but rubs on bigger trees and they were trashed. checked my trail cam hoping to find a lot of pictures, instead i was an idiot and didnt get it set up right so no pictures lol. but checked and refreshed a couple mock scrape sites and they looked like they had been worked by another deer. im going to put my dripper on one of them so i can fool the buck into thinking this "other" deer is hanging around now. hopefully wiz him off and catch him looking for a fight and let the mathews and rage broadheads eat! looks like the rain is over now boys, lets get these crops out and hopefully get these deer moving!:)

so a little update from me. . . i was telling my brother about him getting in the stand more and telling him how things are starting to get good. well on his way home last night a buck chasing two does came flying across the road and conor smashed the doe. the buck ran free though and he was pretty good size my brother said. bummer for the car though looks to be about over five grand in damage. lucky for full coverage.

oh if anyone shoots one, you should post it on here we need all the encouragement we can get lol:) no more rain!

I watched 2 bucks fight in my headlights two nights ago. Had just picked the corn & was in the grain cart when I saw them. Stopped and watched them go at it for awhile. My Dad and son both saw bruisers today. Things are heating up pretty good. The bigger ones are starting to roam around looking.

Get the corn out !!!

Not to sound negative but i have been off work this week and been on stand the last five days . I have not seen one mature buck or even one mature doe from any of my stands . I hunt a 300 acre farm with more than half in very good timber and in the past have taken nice bucks from this farm but the other half is still in standing corn . Yesterday i i wanted to put up a couple stands for the up coming gun season . In the process i was on the look out for sign and saw very few rubs and just a hand full of small scrapes . I have heard other hunters seeing some chasing going on but by small ,young bucks and i keep hearing the big boys being seen at night ! I guess my question is what stage of the rut are we in ? Is most of this happing at night ,in corn or is it just slow on my farm? I know things and times of the rut can be diff at any location .But im afriad im missing it for one reason or another .Bottom line i think the corn is killing me and no one can help that , Just hope they can get it out soon!

The corn is definitely a major killer...them ladies can run into that crap and lead those bucks on a wild goose chase for hours. I am in the same boat you are in my friend. I have yet to see a mature buck in daylight...however, i have a few friends around who have been seeing them cruising during the day, so i guess what really matters is when that first doe on your property comes in to estrus...when that happens, you should see a total circus. I am hunting hard and consistent, and hope sooner or later my luck will change...good luck.

Seen some fairly good movement yesterday. My buddy rattled in a small 5 pointer. The highs this weekend are supposed to be in the 70's, so the next cold front, I think, should kick things up a notch. The moon is getting darker every night too, so the next two weeks should be prime.

Yep...i gambled this year and thought that with the moon being full on the 1st, that i should hold off on my vacation until the second and third week of Nov. I am off from Saturday night the 7th and don't have to be back to work until the 19th. I am crossing my fingers and hoping that i can put it together!!!

On another note...this is great stuff here. I put my fiance up in one of my hang ons yesterday afternoon at about 2:00...She absolutely hates sitting for more than 2 hours...anyhow, i told her to be on her toes at all times, and not to get out of the stand until i get there. I went and sat in a ground blind on the downwind side of a huge prairie bedding area...I didnt see crap, until the farmer fired up his combine and started picking beans at about 5:00. he pushed about 5 deer off the field but they ran the other way, and i couldn't tell what they were - but i knew they came from this prairie. So i get out of my stand and start hiking over to where the Fiance is. Its about 5:20 and i am at the bottom of her tree looking up and she is speachless just shaking her head back and forth. She lowers down her bow and i look at her quiver and all her arrows are still in it, so i just assume she's super hacked at me for making her sit there that long without seeing a thing...WRONG!!! She gets down and says " OH MY GOD!!! i JUST HAD A MONSTER 8 PTR WALK BY AT 9 YARDS!!!!" at this point i am thinking, ok, and why do you have all your arrows in your quiver? She is almost yelling at me at this point. "He HE He walked by right where you said he would but i didn't see him unitl he was to my right, and i drew my bow on him...I bleeping had him, i had him...but i just couldn't pull the trigger......OOOOOHHHH STUPID BUCK FEVER"

I had to listen to this the whole way home...i couldn't stop chuckling...this was not the first time she got the fever and forgot to shoot, nor was it the second time...this was the third time on a buck over 135. We got home and i pulled up some pics, and we were able to identify which buck it was...he's a mature 4 1/2 year old 8 that i think will go high 130's...

sorry for the long post, but i had to share it...i am still laughing about it.
