Been reading up on it and have not found a solid answer. Edited October 26, 2009 by 92xj

Been reading up on it and have not found a solid answer. I don't think so, but I can't be entirely sure. My word processing program says it's an error when I put two spaces and automatically changes it to one. That would waste a lot of time if you had to space twice after every period, though. stevebeilgard
one space after a period. period. due to lazyness, i tend to not capitalize my letters and use proper grammar, but i once knew how.

Ashley
Okay, here you go: my roommate is an English major and we looked it up in one of her books and on the MLA website. It says that two spaces was generally used when people used typewriters, but now one space is generally accepted because we have word processing and the words are much more evenly spaced and easier to read. One space is the most commonly accepted unless otherwise specified by specific guidelines or by your professor/teacher/editor, what have you. http://www.mla.org/style_faq3 So there you have it. :clown:

The phrase "I can't help it." is not a complete sentence either. B.O.T- The pre rut is starting here also. It looks like your target has a lover in the area!! 92xj
Yeah, I found the info about the typewriter. I learned in school to always use two spaces so I will continue to do so. I am old school I guess.

That's what I thought. I just didn't wanna say it if it was wrong Yeah, I found the info about the typewriter. I learned in school to always use two spaces so I will continue to do so. I am old school I guess. I do it all the time...i learned the hard way. my english teacher failed a report i did once because i didn't double space between sentences...so now, every report i do, there's a double space. Ashley
I realized that this morning as I was re-reading my post and wondered how long it would take for someone to point that out. As my third grade teacher used to say about words not to start sentences with, "Because, and, so -- no! no! no!" I make mistakes too, but I'm only human
