Prairiepredator
We use either a .243 or a .308. They both seem to do the job.
txok52
certainly, the .270 is one of the best all round calibers. 30-06 is nearly the same round.
redkneck
I usually take my .300 WBY, but also got fond of the kid's .243 last year. Also use my 45-70 some. My truck looks like an arsenal when season gets in full swing, got to keep a shotgun in there as well for the occasional afternoon duck hunt. maddhunter
My personal favorite is a Rem 25-06, Savage Model 110 , Hornady GMX 117grn 3300fps, but also shoot a .270 WIN Savage Model 110 shooting Hornady GMX 130grn, 3000fps BOTH TACK DRIVERS. Have also heard nothing but good things about the .270 WIN. short mag except for a little expensive to shoot. Anything .30 cal to .25 that is NOT a SUPER MAG should be fine. Myself I like faster, some like bigger. YES I'M A SPEED FREAK !!!!!!!!!! Edited November 6, 2009 by maddhunter HIT WRONG BUTTON
Loomis1228
Steyr 7mm-08 with a Leopold VXII 3x9x50. Need to buy another box of shells and it's going to hurt me to fork over $30 for it! I have: .300 Win Mag, .270 Rem, 7mm, Encore .50 Cal. I want a 25.06 in a Remington mountain rifle for my next one!
Eric25
Varies anything from a 45-70, to 300 wby mag, or 338 ruger, or even last years favorite that I shot my 11 point with my CZ .375 H&H Mag lol Yes it was overkill but my god the damage was undescriable lol
joeaveragehunter
Tikka 300wsm. Winchester ballistic tip. Way too much gun for a deer, but I can take it anywhere and shoot anything with it.
headhunter54
What caliber? I like my Browning A Bolts, have a 204,243,270WSM, and 300WSM. The 270WSM with 140 gr Accubond has decked every deer I have shot at. Killed an antelope with it at 330 yards last year. I also have a 270 Winchester in a Remington 700 Titanium that is a plesure to carry, but will depend on the WSM.
