sureshot
been the toughest season i ever hunted, had at least 5 oppertunities at 160 or better bucks, spent over 1500 bucks on gas hunting for 5 weeks fr a non typ that a lucky hunter got with muzzleloader,[i was not drawn only had bow tag]which I could of shot him at leat 10 times with a ML, he wa sabout 200 "net, today I hnted with prairypredator which was a honor, he is a great kid which had the common sence of a great hunter and he is one!!! theprob is we cold not get him one this am, thsi afternoon, I went back to the same pasture and walked in , I glassed a nice buck bedded at a couple hundred yards, crawled up and got in position, all I could see was nice upper forks ad getting this close to the end of the season i was taking a doe or a mature buck, no inbetween, he was mature, I ranged him at 28 yards, waited trill he stood up, in about 15 minutes he stood up and startedto walk, he was behind trees, I ranged the trees, 30 yards, he stepped up and I could see his front shoulders and about 6 inches of his chest iI set the 30 yard pin on his chest right in front of the trees, and released I lost the arrow as it caught the edge of the brush but he buckeld like a heartshot deer, I know it was not a heart shot but the way he acted i would of bet on it, he took off over the hill, I instatly went to the arrow seeing he could not see me, I found it with slight dark red blood, good sign but the it started to rain, with the uncertasinty of the exact shot im just searched for blood on this side of the hill and glassed from the top, no sign tonight, I know he is in thew draw but it is about a mile long and 400 yards wide, I am 95 percent confident the shot hit him good but right now every thought is goign throuh my mind, he is not the huge one I wanted but still a supper buck for bow, especially with only a couple days left to hunt, a mature 160 plus class buck, the thing that really gets me going is the pasture is crawling with coyotes ad the owner spotte a cat a few weeks ago, thye were howling all afternoon, I am sure they will be on my buck tonight, I could of went after him right away but if I only one lunged him or liver shot i might of pushed him, i think I did the rigt thing, only way i will find him is find the fur i think tomorrow, I hate to waist 75 pounds of good meat but what else can i do!!I wish I knew what der it was ,all I know is he had good mass, great upper v's and seen fronyt forks but did not pay attention, seeing it was the end of the season!!I have pics of most of the bucks, and sure hope itistheone with extra forks up top, he was the original deer i was hunting there, also wish me luck sleeping!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!btw had a couple beer to try to help, doubt if it will work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Prairiepredator
Thanks Bret! It was also an honor for me to hunt with you because it is not very often you come across a hunter as dedicated and experienced as yourself. Thanks again for taking me out hunting, it was awesome! I really hope you find that deer and when you do, I would love to see it!
sureshot
found him late this afternoon, this am found 2 puddles of blood but no trails in or out with blood, the rain washed it off!I went for lunch and after lunch found him about 100 yards away from the pools ofblood, the coyotes had a fiest, I managed to save one hind quarter that was not tore up at all, looking close at the ribs it looks like I hitthe fourth one back, there is a small gouge out of it, I am thinking it may of hit just at the right angle and made it deflect back, he was perfect broadside I think!A double lung he would not of went the 400 yards, and deffinatly would not of gotten up twice, I am thinking a coyote might of pushed him up, becouse I was still 250 yards away from the pools were I glassed last night,no way I spooked him, I am upset I was by myself and did not get any field pics but they would of been gross anyway,I will have to hope I get a whitetail for the contest, I will get pics of the antlers up within the next day or so, all I can say is they are better than I thought,my best bow kill, but to tell the truth does not feel like it, the antlers are great but looking at the pics of a clean kill and great hunt and eating the deer means more to me than a piece of antler that cost me close to 2 grand lol!!
