Turkeygirl
Yup, me and my good ol' Hoyt finally struck this weekend! Andy and I met up with the neighbor at his cabin about an hour away Saturday afternoon. Got to our stands about quarter to 4. Different this year is the neighbor turned a big golden rod field on his property into a food plot. Well the stand I always hunt, a ladder stand Andy bought, is set back in on a corner in the hardwoods where they meet up to spruce trees and trails on the bottom edge/corner of the field. I literally was in my stand a 1/2 hour at most when I hear something to my right and look and there stands a little button buck right there on the road/trail coming up the hill, sniffing the goldenrod where I walked in to my stand. So I have to turn around since he's on my right...I get up and my hot seat squeeks, he looks but resumes sniffing..I get up and get situated but he straight on so I wait. Well then a little doe comes out...the neighbor didn't want to shoot big does but said the real littles ones were fine, besides all mom has been saying lately is "I want little ones". So I decide I'm going to get her...well she looks up at my tree then looks down and starts feeding down the trail, no shot. By then the little button is behind my tree, maybe 5 yards. So I turn around again but instead bring my bow across in front of my and flip the HSS vest strap over to my other shoulder. He's quarted away, I draw my bow, put my first pin on him and THWACK! He takes off back into the spruces where he came from, arrow in him...I thought huh, no pass through...maybe stuck in the opposite shoulder. So I'm waiting 10 or 15 minutes, trying to radio Andy when I see movement about 10 yards or so on the trail where it rounds the corner in front of me..I look...it's a BOBCAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've only seen 1 in my life, in the Adirondacks! Well by the time I fished my camera out, he'd walked into the spruces. Then I think OMG, he's headed towards where my deer went! So then I get down, pick up the blood trail, which started right where I shot him...and it was a fairly easy track job...through goldenrod and spruces and I found him...arrow still in him but not broken. So I drag him back to the cabin, get him cleaned out...the arrow did go through and came out right at the opposite shoulder but stopped when it went through and hit the leg....a nice quartering away shot...hit the stomach though a little, and liver, and lung...got it all about, lol. Anyway here's a photo for ya. Hope to get another little one on the gorund or a doe, and a buck. Not going to enter this one in the contest, planning on getting something with antlers:clown: Oh yeah, was in the cabin after cleaning my deer when guess what walks out about 40 yards from the cabin...feeding...this pretty basket rack 8 point! Argh, lol! Took the photo with the self timer on my camera.
