Was in the stand yesterday morning and about 9 or so I had not seen any deer so I decided to rattle. I usually wait till about an hour or so into daylight so I dont spook anything if its close and I cant see them. Started with a grunt, snortweeze, and then a small rattling sequence. Not 10 minutes after I did this a nice 8pt came walking from my left and down wind of course to check things out. He walked right past my trail I walked in and kept coming to my right. With still alot foliage still around I could not get a great look at him but once he got to about 30yds he turned the other way towards a food plot that was about 75 yds away. I grunted once he was turned that way and he stoped looked and would'nt you know he was a tweener.( a buck that is close to being a shooter and still a little to small.) He had good height on his main beems but lacked tine length and mass on his g2's and g3's. 4 inch brows and about 17 to 18 inches wide.

Here is my dillema. I like to let these bucks walk cause I know next season He will be a shooter, but the neighbors on this property shoot anything that walks during gun season. So its really hard to manage for larger bucks when this occurs, but they have the right to shoot what they want. If I dont see another buck this season that is bigger I might be a little frustrated I did'nt take this buck, but if he happens to make it to next year that would be a bonus.

Heck I was just glad to rattle in a decent buck this early in the pre rut..

Anybody else having any luck?
