wtnhunt
We were watching the news last night eating supper when this story comes on officers speaking out. What a bunch of misinformed crap. Armor piercing rounds in the SKS? You can get rounds for common deer rifles that will have far more devastating effects than the 7.62X39. They had the memphis police captain get on and say how terrible this particular gun is, but what he failed to tell the viewers was that the gang members who are using these guns are most likely not acquiring them legally in the first place. They are already criminals, using these guns in violence. They said officers said [ QUOTE ] this is one weapon that you don't want to see in the hands of criminals [/ QUOTE ] Now I am not the most brilliant person in the world, but I personally dont want to see any criminals with weapons. Really sad to see a police captain for a large city get on the tube and make ignorant misinformative comments on a weapon in the hands of criminals. Any gun in the hands of a criminal is bad, whatever it is. Too bad many people out there will see this kind of nonsense and not know any better. OJR
Re: Really irritates me Here we go again!! Time to rev up the anti-gun crap all over! It is not going to die and those who think it is are just plain WRONG!!
buckee
Re: Really irritates me Just goes to show you that their are plenty of civil servants who are anti-gun. Even some policemen feel it would be better place to live if they were the only ones with weapons. I think they have lost touch with history, if they feel that would be better. [/ QUOTE ] let me say this as i have seen the affects of a 7.62x39 up close and personal. and they do have armour piercing rounds as well. though the ak47 was not he most accurate round when it hit a body it has a devistating affect on it and yes there were armour piercing rounds in vietnam since there was protection for a the acav personnel carriers and yes they shot them at people also. the round is a devistating round that will tear up a body as well thin metal, the round is what we used to call a clean killer. you need to know that the round is going to do all kinds of damage and will definately make for a **** of a deer round but thank god we can't or we are not supposed to have them where we can buy them off the streets lol. a 7.62x39 is a great close order round with lots of punch and at short ranges when it hits it;s target it ill tear it a new one rob k

A 30 .06 and a .308 if I am not mistaken also are capable of firing "armor piercing" rounds, and both have a much higher velocity and potential for damage in comparison to the 7.62 x 39. A couple of the most popular deer cartridges ever made. This kind of language feeds right into the hands of those who are seeking to take away ALL our guns. The sks is just not as popular in the hunting community, but what happens if it gets banned on the notion that it is capable of firing "armor piercing" ammo. Well lets see, that then leads to the idea of lets just go ahead and ban every firearm that can potentially also punch through a car door. What would be left . Any gun in the hands of a criminal can be devastating! Does not have to be a high power rifle or even a semi auto.

Tominator
Re: Really irritates me Yep, totally agree William. It is so outrageous that mayoral morons actually believe that outlawing guns will solve the problem. About a month ago, the mayor of Columbus Ohio tried to push some legislation to outlaw "assault weapons" sales. First of all, they have no clue what an "assault" weapon is, and second of all, they have to be the most naive morons to believe that a crimminal will be deterred in the city of columbus just because he or she can't buy that type of gun within the city limits. Unbelievable aggravation with me too.
stevebeilgard
Re: Really irritates me hey tom. assult weapons are further described as any weapon used in an assault, or capable thereof. so, if you hold up a 7-11 with a water pistol and "assault" the teller with water, you have an assault weapon. and a wet teller. just another liberal, catch all word(s) to take away ALL weapons
wtnhunt
Re: Really irritates me I wrote the executive producer of the news channel an e-mail with my thoughts and some better information than what they gave, including some more factual information on ballistics of the sks versus some popular hunting calibers such as the 30 .06. That producer sent me a message back saying she appreciated my input and that she was investigating the story. Unfortunately I lost those e-mails Friday sometime along with everyting in outlook.
