mathews4life84
I am heading out to hunt this evening here in northern indiana. Anyone in INDIANA OR the surrounding states having any luck rattling yet? What do you think, should i give it a go and hope it doesnt spook them or what. I think if i do a moderate sequence it should be fine. I will take any advice in to consideration while on stand.
toddyboman
Yup take the horns.....I generally don't blind rattle to much but if I see a buck i will rattle at him to see how he reacts. I have several trial cam pics of bucks sparing so you just never know. Good luck!
layin on the smackdown
I just started rattling yesterday...I havent been going full bore yet, just tickling and sparring...I haven't had much success with rattling in the past anyway, but i would definitely bring your doe bleat and grunt call...they are responding pretty well to that right now...you can try and rattle, and if you have a mature buck within hearing distance, you may just get him to come by and check it out. Its worth a shot. dan
mathews4life84
It was a year ago on the first of november when i was blind grunting and the can in a sequence when i got a shot at the booner. He came into 40 yards and statrted to walk away when i hit him with a few snort wheezes and he came in to 15 yards. Hit him in the shoulder blade and lost him. Im still not over it. Im thinking i am gunna throw everything but the kitchen sink at them this evening. Im sitting along a creek with beans in front, corn to my back, and the woods to my right. Same setup where i had a 135" 10point at 14 yards 1.5 weeks ago. Elected to pass as i expect there to be bigger bucks out there this year. Tominator
Depends on what you want to shoot. If you're planning on filling the freezer with a doe, leave them at home. If you any ol' buck will do, yeah, you might want to take them. Just read an article in North American Hunter that said rattling is more effective in the mornings though. I got so desperate to see a deer Saturday, that I actually did 2 blind sequences. Zero results.

PaBowhunter00
I normally do blind sequences and last year it work out for me, I missed, but it still worked (I coupled the sequence with some estrus scent), doe bleat, grunt call and rattling for about 30 secs, 10 mins before light, 10 mins before dark, then 2 or so more around mid day
PAarcher
Bucks have been fighting in PA, I rattled on the 26th and had a nice shooter come right in and made a perfect shot. Biggest buck to date and I don't think I would have seen him if I didn't hit the horns and grunt.
arrow32
I would give it a try if I saw a buck. Wouldn't do to much blind rattling but thats just myself.
Tony
what are you waiting for? i been rattling for 2 weeks now. many guys think the rut or pre rut has to be in swing for rattling. but bucks will come to horns as soon as they are in hard horn. i have rattled them in as early as oct 5th and as late as jan 8th here in iowa. mathews4life84
no luck. well got in the stand last evening around 3:45. i waited til about 5:00 before i tried anything. first i did the can and grunt sequence, then followed up with a moderate rattling sequence. nothing. i tried it again just a little before dark and still nothing. i think where i am at this particular farm its too early yet. my cousin was hunting last night 2 miles away and had bucks running does hard all evening he said. im still working on thinning out the doe herd out here. when we first bought this 150 acres the b to d ratio was like 15 to 1. after 3 years of killing about 20 does each year it is finally getting close. probably more like 5 or 6 to 1 now. by the way i didnt shoot all 20 does myself. there was help from several others.
