Down to the wire

Well, there are three days left for the first archery season here in my part of NJ. It will then cost me $56 to hunt the rut for 1 zone permit and the buck tag.

Anyway, I will be trying to kick it into gear and stay out all day for these last days. I know the odds are pretty tough, but you can't kill them from the couch. Big moon might help see them in the middle of the shorter days. I went out this afternoon and changed some things around. Sat for an hour before dark and the deer were on the move, but nothing came close.

Good luck Mike. Think I may try to slip out with my bow this afternoon myself, might be the last chance I get here at home for a couple weeks.

Freaking weather here is about to drive me nuts bud, our 10 day forecast when I looked at it Saturday had a chance of rain for Thursday night into Friday morning. It poured here yesterday all day long. We have flash flooding once again, and now rain in the forecast for tomorrow through Saturday, this weather might not be too good for hunting this weekends youth hunt here if the bottom floods.

When I get home our ml'er season will be in, plan is to let Catrina hunt as much of it as she wants. Our ml'er this year runs into rifle, so archery will not be back in for me until December.

you live in the state and you have to buy another license,to hunt the rut and than you have to buy a buck tag too..

Yes, Robert, It will cost me $56 for the archery permit and tag. Each zone permit is $28 and the buck tag is $28. I can buy as many zone permits as I want but can only kill 1 buck no matter what zone.

The same thing for ML and permit shotgun. I just buy the archery and ML permit. Also a 10.50 rifle permit required to hunt ML

So it is is $72.25 for my All Around license. Firearm, fishing and archery (save $10)

$56 extended archery permit and tag

$66.50 ML permit and tag and rifle permit.

$10.50 for a trout stamp

$23 x2 turkey tag

$251.25

Perseverance is the price a good hunter must pay.

Thanks for the well wishes everyone. My plan didn't work out for those last days. Saw some bucks day before yesterday. A spike was the only one in shooting range. I tried to coax a decent six within shooting range with no luck. Was hoping the can would do it, but he showed no interest in that or a grunt. I had one decent rack at long distance, but he was on the move through a noisy woods and never heard my call. Today only had a doe and a couple fawns on the other side of the fence.

I ponied up for the extended archery tags and will be at it again in a few minutes here. I tell myself that I am not going to continue to pay these ridiculous costs anymore. If only I would have lucked out and got my buck I'd be hunting the rut with my camera.. I guess they know the addiction.
