dawgitall
Time is my biggest obstacle when it comes to hunting. I had a meeting get moved this morning so I decided to slip out for a couple hours. I had been drawn for a public land hunt this week so I went there this morning and a truck was parked a little to close to my liking. Considering it was 77 degrees with humidity at 211% I decided to go back to my little tract I have permission to hunt. I could just slip up in a ladder stand and not have to tote my climber in and set it up like I would on the public land. This was my third hunt this year and the little field as I call it isn't great place to hunt but there are some deer including a few basket rack bucks that I have refused to draw a bead on. I was hoping for a shot at a Doe. Right after I killed my 34th mosquito I caught movement behind me and to the left. There she was looking dead at me at 25 yards. I had fairly good cover so I stayed calm and waited her out. She almost even got on her back legs to get her nose even higher in an attempt to confirm her suspicions. After a 5 minute stallmate she began to meander off. She went behind a tree to my left. Finally after my second draw, she gave me a broadside shot at 35 yards. She positioned herself nicely in front of a whorled pine that I had ranged at exactly 40 yards. I sqeezed it off and she bolted. As she was running, I saw a big red spot marking my shot;slightly high but getting both lungs. I have never seen that much blood before watching a deer run off. She piled up 70 yards away, a stones throw from the property line. This was my first shot with a RAGE broadhead and I can assure it won't be my last. I had been practicing out to 50 yards and it really paid off, making the 35 yards no problem. The shot was a complete pass through and the arrow stuck firmly in the ground on the other side. I really wanted to break the ice before I went to Ohio. Well, thank the Lord. Now if only Georgia could upset Florida this weekend. I think I better stop while I'm ahead! Iv'e taken plenty of deer with my Bow but it's been a while and it feels good to be back in the fold.
