Accidental Shooting Victim Identified

The Gregory County Sheriff's office is investigating a hunting-related death that officials say they believe was the result of an accidental shooting.

Sheriff Charlie Wolf says 26-year-old Leonila Stickney died Saturday.

Sheriff's officials say she was a passenger in a vehicle. Her friend was getting back in after shooting a pheasant when he accidentally fired, striking her in the chest.

I was about 20 miles away from where this happened when it happened.

These acts of carelessness could be prevented, so sad. Gotta also agree with what was said in another thread, this is not a "hunting accident" really wish people would quit calling them that. This was rather an accidental shooting, the accident really had nothing to do with hunting but everything to do with improper handling of a firearm, totally avoidable.

1.) isn't it illegal to shoot game from a roadway?

2.) isn't it illegal to transport loaded firearms?

Come on people, these are simple laws!!! Use your brains a little bit...just a little...we aren't asking for you idiots to build the next Arc....

They were pheasant hunting and it is legal to shoot from the road. There are a few restrictions on where you can hunt but you can hunt small game in the road right of way.

great...but you still cant drive around with a loaded shotgun...just saying...had this moron unloaded the gun like a normal person, this would have been avoided. Even if it is legal to drive around with a loaded shotgun, who puts it in the vehicle while pointing it at someone? THese are just stupid people who shouldn't have the right to handle firearms...Actually, they should be nominated for the Darwin awards....sad story indeed.

It didn't say anything about shooting from the road, nor did it mention anything about having a loaded firearm in the vehicle. Let's stick to the facts...eh

It is a fact that the person was a moron and was getting into a vehicle with a loaded gun while pointing it at the passenger. I am simply elaborating on the fact that, whether it is legal or not, it is still stupid and carelss. Seriously, who does that?

Negligent not accidental.

I Agree....A human life was lost due to poor decision making or no decision made at all.

My question is how does anyone begin to enter a vehicle with the muzzle of the loaded shotgun pointed at the only other person around?

I consider myself to have a fairly normal imagination but I fail to be able to imagine this scenario...without doubts as to it being an "Accident".

Anyone with any respect for what a firearm could do would not Gary. These senseless killings really irritate me.

I just came across this forum while looking for some information on the death of Leonila. She was new to the country from the Philippines and was going through a divorce with her new husband, with whom she had a young child.

The family is looking for information on her death, because it sounds suspicious and they are not getting very much information from the husband.

Such a shame. I could care less what the law states. You have to beat proper gun handling into your children like my father beat it into me as a child. You'll find no gun locks at my house. My kids know from what I've preached to them, THERE ARE NO SECOND CHANCES. I've had friends and family die from such carelessness. There's rarely an excuse for a hunter killing another hunter. I say rarely only because I've seen an incident or two over the years when someone was in a place where they should not have been and got caught in the line of fire. 99.9% of these things should/could be prevented.

I agree this did not happen while out hunting rather after hunting therefore does not count in my opinion.:boxing:

Ok, you lost me there. Does not count for what?

A person died for no reason. Doesn't matter to me if they died while hunting or in the middle of the night in the camp house, the end result, sadly, is the same.
