tuffbuck
coyotes are very unpredictable and have been known to attack humans, about 10 years ago a hunting partner of ours was by himself approaching his stand and came face to face with coyotes and they didnt run off until he fired a shot, this is really sad,she should never have been there alone or unarmed. sureshot
sad story , sorry to the family!!! What attacked her and killed her was not a true coyote, down east the majority are mixtures, either with dogs or wolves, there was a survey doe here a few years back by I believe the university of toronto and they tested 1000 coyotes a carcasses and found all true coyote 100 percent, they were surprized becouse most of the eastern coyotes are not 100%,this is the reason they have a totally different decription in the fur market, furs worse less and they are quite a bit bigger than the western coyote! Will bet anything if they got one and tested it it is not a true coyote, it will prob have wolf or dog blood mixed in, true coyotes are willy but in the warm weather would never attack unless sick or starving!!!! That has got to be right! You don't hear of coyotes attacking people very often. Either way it is still very sad.

sureshot
I hear lots of coyotes killing deer to but I spend hundreds if not thousands of hours a year out in the bush and the only dead deer I find are winter kills or wounded deer, I do believe that and have seen coyote chasing deer herds and taking out the weak in deep snow in the winter, I kill close to 200 of the buggers a winter but I have learnt alot about them and have respect for them more than any other animal! I just get a little upest when I hear by ranchers that a only good coyote is a dead one and go kill them all! They seem to get a bad rap around here by ranchers, they see a dead calf eaten by coyotes and the coyote killed it, but every time I hear it I ask if they seen the coyote kill it and the responce was no! I do know the eastern coyote with wolf and dog blood are more if a killer but the western coyote is more of a scavnger, I believe that is why they call better to, they live off of carion and small animals more that deer! In my eyes theya re the perfect animal, they can adapt to any circumstance and survive on anything, 75 percent of my winter coyotes have grain in there dumpings, they will survive on anything!! I am not arguing that deer are not killed by coyotes in certain places,[ more than likely the eastern coyote] I just know here with the western coyote and the amount of time I spend out there there are not any coyote kills i find unless they are sick or weak!
