ruttinbuc
He will have to learn sooner or later if he has an interest in learning to hunt. I would take him after you get your turkey. We all were taught at some point.
Guest okladeerhunter
Re: Take the kid? Tuff call! Can you kill more than bird? If so go ahead a kill one by yourself and then take him hunting. I would stress to him the importance of beinging still and that if you were to call one in and he was to blow the shot he would not be going with me anymore. But then again you hate to tell a kid that wants to go NO but what can you do. I have used this on my 9 year old girl before and it works. If she is restless I will tell her she is not going and after about 3 or 4 trips by myself she asks again and the same thing goes and she knows it. Just my two cents worth. Good Luck MG
lil hunter
Re: Take the kid? why don't you buy some blind material and biuld you a little blind whereer ypou are gonna set up. it only takes about a minute if you have a good spot. I'd take him on a scouting trip sometime, glassing the fields. Make sure you stress that he doens't move, and is pretty quiet the whole trip. I agree, if you can shoot more than 1 bird, go without him and shoot one, then take him once or twice. You don't have to take him a bunch. MrWiggely
Re: Take the kid? I know how you feel, When my 5 year old wants me to take him, I just take him and figure on not getting anything that day. That way I am not dissapointed. And on occassion very happy when we do get lucky. Deffinately take him once or twice, you can make a blind out of a downed tree top and set in there nicely without to much risk of being spotted. Tominator
Re: Take the kid? yeah, i'd do my hunting first and then take him. also, i would make him sit still outside for say, 20 minutes and tell him if he can do it, you'll take him. if he moves tell him that you won't take him until he learns to play by the rules. sureshot
Re: Take the kid? It sure is a hard call seeing you ahve never shot a turkey! I have been taking my 2 girls out stalking mule deer with the bow since they were 4 and 9. We have stalked to 50 yards sometimes but then the little one yells there the deer is dad LOL! I do not expect to get one with them just to get them involved and loving nature and the outdoors! I would hunt hard by myself for a couple days then bring him out for one evening sometime! A couple hours is usually enough for a young kid anyways! Good luck on any decision you make!

Steven
Re: Take the kid? I say take him. When I first started hunting, I learned that the hunting experience isn't all about the kill. It's comradary, it's enjoying nature, it's alot more than a kill. I'd take him after you get a bird. Let him watch the birds and critters and get aquainted with nature in all her splender. If he then gets discouraged, maybe he's not meant to be there.
archerjg
Re: Take the kid? I would take him. Build a blind on the ground and then take him. Eve nif you don't see anything you will still enjoy the hunt. Archerjg
