What slug barrel to put on my 870 express?

I have an 870 express w/ a 28 inch barrel. I'm thinking about using this as a slug gun aswell. Which barrel that they offer for slug gun is better and what do you guys use? Thanks for any tips

I used a Hastings barrel on my 870 before I got my 1100.

It depends on what you are willing to spend. All of mine, and my son's barrels are smoothe bore. That's all we need for the terrain and type of hunting that we do. The rifled choke, in my opinion, is a waste of money. I had one, and it didn't do the job, so I now shoot smoothe bore through an improved cylinder choke tube, with Brenneke slugs.

Fully rifled barrels are alot more money, and ammo costs more, but they have considerably more range capabilities. I don't need to spend that much.

This is just what I use, and in no way am I stating that these are the absolute best ways to do it. I just like to stick with the system that has accounted for dozens + deer for me.

I put a rifled Hastings with cantilever scope mount on my wife's 870 and it's a tack driver.

is you are in woods, either a smoothbore, or a rifled barrel with rifle sights would be nice.(remington makes these). If you may be hunting in fields with shots at 75 yards or farther, you'd probably be a lot better off with buying a rifled cantiliver barrel. Then buy a nice scope for it. If you buy a remington barrel with rifle sights, i would recommend buying a god set of tru-glo, or other fiber optics to put on it.

I have shot 870 with rifled slug barrels from Mossberg, Remington, Ithaca, and Hastings. All shot decent groups with their favorite ammo. Personslly, I would get a cantilever scope mount barrel that is fully rifled. From whichever manufacturer I could get the best deal.

I have the rifled slug barrel that came with my 870 combo pack. It's equipped with TruGlo sights and shoots dead on at 75 yds. I would say try different barrels if possible and choose the one that shoots the best for the least money.

I use the model that Mossberg makes to fit the 870. It's fully rifled and is A LOT less expensive than buying a factory Remington one. My 870 is accurate out to 100 yards shooting Winchester 3" Super X Sabots, and she can keep 5 sabots in an area the size of a half dollar out to that distance. I am sure if I wanted to I could stretch it a little further, but a lot of my shots are usually 50 yards and in anyways. Hope this helps.

i use a smooth bore with cantinever scope mount ic choke tube. yes there is one made with the sps-t rem 1187 or 870 . foster slugs shoot better at $1.99 a box of five. i spend to mutch on steel shot for waterfowel.

My buddy has a Hastings and that thing is so accurate it's scary. He can take shots I would never dream of.
