First off , I want to thank everyone for the good wishes and also my trusty posters..... Everyone should thank them cause without them this wouldnt be possible....

Secondly on the hunt... I promised a good friend from work that i would take him out west this fall. Looked high and low and found what i thought was a good ranch.. The owner answered every question perfect !! The best one was were overun with whitetails ....2 miles of river bottom, irrigated alphalfa , no one else chasin whitetails ... Only a few mule deer hunters with only doe tags..... Well, we were misled saw maybe 20 whitetails 3 bucks in 2 days of scouting and 2 days of hunting( have more here at home LOL) maybe 1 mile of river bottom, didnt mention letting in local pheasant hunters every day.

This in all my out of state hunts ( 40) was the worst ever.. If I was alone I would have come home after 2 days . But my buddy had never been out west and wanted to stay and try ..so thats what we did we walked ,glassed and walked more and glassed . saw a bunch of doe and a few small bucks. We did see a 180 class mulie one night on the road coming home from dinner. I saw him the last morning on the adjoining ranch alll he had to do was cross the road and he was in my lap but you know how that goes .... A cattle truck came down the road , slowed down and the buck ran back into the field farther away and walked off. If he would have crossed it would have been a160 yd shot... Oh well.....

Sorry that we didnt connect but we made the best of it. So thats the best we could do we were dealt a bad hand and we palyed anyway .

Ill try again in Kansas next saturday That one should be good . SE kansasbowhunter ( Clint) has been scouting his tail of and Ill post some pics of some dandies soon. That one were filming so hopefully I used all my bad luck up between SD and Mt.

time for bed just got home tonight

I had a hunt full of promises and BS one time too, Tim! Tough to swallow, but what can you do. At the time I thought this opportunity was too good to be true. It was and I have learned from that experience, for sure. Sorry it didn't work out for you and your friend in Montana.. Good luck in Kansas! I would love to get back there one day.

I know that feeling Tim, been there on a bear hunt in Canada once. Lot of promise from the outfitter, no bear. Never even saw one! Now my hunts are all DIY.

Anyway, you got to spend some quality time with a friend and you are now that much more valuable to the forum members! Perhaps you could add a blog to your profile that lists the things you have learned when selecting an outfitter! The questions you ask and any other pearls! You could also list the names of the ones you recommend (if that's legal?).:D

Good luck in Kansas!

Sorry your friend had to experience that on his 1st western hunt Tim. I'll bet that's bothering you more than anything else. Had 2 hunts that I'd like to forget. One was a Rio hunt and the other was a bear hunt. Cured me from ever wanting to make another bear hunt.

Smack a bigun in KS. I'm heading that way on the 17th.
