So my little niece is four years old going on 30. she picks up things so fast and listens to just about everything i tell her. she listens and seems to really like deer hunting and tells me to always stop by when i shoot a deer so she can see it. She watches hunting movies with me all the time and always says she cant wait till she is a little older so she can go with me. so with all that said listen to this.

Im over at my sisters house and ask my niece how pre school is going. She starts telling me about all the nice kids and how nice her teacher is. so far so good right? then she tells me how im bad because her teacher said you should never ever hurt an animal and shooting deer and hunters are bad. i know right!? i tried explaining to her that its ok and neccerssary and that her teacher just has an opionion and that im not bad for it being a hunter. but its like her mind is made up because she is taught to listen to her teacher. i really dont think this is something to be discussed in school let alone pre school. say hello to many months of damage control on this one! when i was in school the opener of shotgun season was almost like a national holiday and you were excused from school for a day. now they are teaching that hunters are bad and lawfully haresting animals is wrong. what is the world coming to : s

now that's just sad...that teacher has every right to have an opinion, and she has every right to voice it, but to a bunch of 4 & 5 year olds who live in a state where hunting is big is out of line. she should've made clear that it's an opinion and she's not a miss know-it-all...or kept her mouth shut...

I'd be giving her a piece of my mind if she had told my niece that.

This is a big concern in schools. Start brainwashing them when they are young...

Mandi, my daughter came home last year (Sophomore) from school so mad she was ready to spit nails. Her Spanish teacher had announced that anyone that eats deer meat is poor.

Amazing, ignorance is bliss however, it effects our rights more than we realize.

As a school teacher I deal with teachers in my building of the same mentality. Schedule a meeting with the teacher and kindly ask her not to force her beliefs on your child. If she continues then speak with the principle.

I agree. We never had this problem in our school, I grew up in a small town and the majority of my teachers were also hunters. Our school was always closed on opening day of shotgun season.

The school system today makes me angry over their "hands off" policy. I understand the theory behind it, but in our school system, if you are involved in a fight, BOTH parties are suspended. It seems that they prefer to have a child drop to the ground and go into the fetal position to protect themselves from bullies, than to fight back. I have instructed my kids that if a bully is hurting them, and there are no teachers around, they ARE TO defend themselves. The school sets up rules that are removing my childs lawful right to self defense away. Section 35.10 on the NYS Penal Law, makes allowances for this. I have been very clear with the school on this and explained to the principal AND the teachers that should my child merely defend themselves from a bully, and there is any repercussions from the school I will be forced to take legal action.

Seems they are teaching children how to become victims now-a-days. :hammer1:

Amen brother! who is to tell them what they can dip there nose into anyways. i respect teachers and for the most part they put up with a lot. but seriously she is four years old and they are instilling there own personal beliefs into kids that they may not even see in later years. those are beliefs and opinions that they should be only telling their own children. and i agree with whoever it was above that said they should be teaching abc's and what not and thats exactly right, if this woman wanted to be a therapist she should have choose another career path. it just makes me so upset that she is telling those kids that.

oh and as for the hands off policy, in high school it was the same deal, if someone started a fight and the other guy laid down on the floor and took the beating both would be suspended for the week. insane! if someone saw someone being bullied or in a fight and tried to break it up all three would be suspend. Isn't indifference the exact same as the person doing the bullying? thats how i was raised, if you see someone being picked on, and you do nothing about it, your just as bad as that person.

All in all im still talkling to her trying to get it out of her head and she isnt having it. this is going to take some time all because of someone getting a little too power hungry:poke:

that is totally wrong for a teacher to do that. And to a pre-schooler? I have a lot of teachers who hunt and my friends and I have conversations to them about hunting but they don't say anything to people who don't hunt. Thats just wrong to say stuff like that to kids. It's anypersons opinion but it should be kept in their own mind.

Hey there is no doubt that teachers have one of the toughest jobs going. I give them the utmost of respect. In todays society where 12 year old kids have lawyers, and a mommy and daddy that see no fault in jr, teachers definitely put up with loads of crap. I think a lot of teachers probably feel the same way we do, but are governed by someone higher as we all are. Right, wrong or indifferent... my kids are taught to defend themselves and each other, no matter what the consequences.....

(and yes, I am a conservative :D)

very very true, what you have taught them or probably the same morals and lessons that you were been taught as you were younger. the kinds of things a parent should teach there kids. im with ya man, oh and dont sell your self short, if i remember right your in law enforcement and you guys put up with a lot crap as well lol:)

i think im gonna snag kyle (my niece) this saturday and have her come sit with me and see what she thinks. as of right now im trying to explain what facts and opionions are:) thats guys for letting me vent a little bit. oh and ps im not bashing on school teachers by any means. i had a teacher in high school that made a big impact on my life and think highly of teachers for what they do each day.
