rossh32
Hey I need some advice if there is any. Sunday morning i paunch shot a 14 pointer and i was disgusted with myself but new that he should die within 12-24 hours. so i go home and wait till today. after searching for about a hour through the brush, i see him 15 yds from me alive. he walked out of the brush, stood there for a minute, then walked down the brush line, with a hole and swelling around the exit would. the arrow had green smelly stuff all over it when i checked it after the shot. what and why is this deer not dead yet? he is a 165-170 class deer. need some guidance. Rhino
All I can tell you is they have a will to live. About the best advice I can give you at this point is...chances are he won't go far before bedding down again. He's sick! Try to find him again late this afternoon or tomorrow but take your bow this time.
MichiganHunter
my guess is you missed it all....all the vitals that is...seams like he is hurting I would go back and try to track him with your bow and give him another one if you can....My dad shot a deer durring gun season a few years back that had half an arrow inside him. Who ever had shot it shot infront of the legs and the deer lived...we didn't even know the deer had an arrow in it till the processor called and said he found half an arrow in it....I saw the deer running to him and it was kind of limping. buckee
He won't go far before laying down again. He's hurtin bad, but it might take a week to kill him. My best advice is to Sneak in there, and put another arrow in him. I had to do that once for my buddy, because he's handicapped,(and a couple times for my own deer), 2 days after he shot it. After a good vinegar bath inside, and discarding the belly flaps, The meat was just fine. I assume you went in without your weapon today. Bummer. That is one totally awesome deer. We're all rootin for ya bud. Edited November 2, 2009 by buckee

sskybnd
im with steve i would go back in after giving him time to bed down, by now he getting real sick, but i would go with my bow this time, if you didnt push him you might be able to find him just a few hundred yards from where you last seen him. AceArcher
I did the same thing on October 13th of this year. Unless you hit a artery or peice of liver the deer will have to die from sepsis and that might take 24 to 48 hours but he will die. Good luck and hope to see some pictures when you find this brute. Good luck. I havn't found my buck yet....he is also in the 160 range. I imagine that someone when stumble across him once shutgun season rolls around. fly
I'd bet he'll be dead by morning. If he's still alive you'll likely be able to get real close for a finishing shot. Have an arrow nocked and ready as you approach!
buckee
I'm dieing to hear an update on him. I bet he didn't go 50 to 70 yrds or even less before lying down again, maybe even less.

johnf
Have your bow ready. Got some great advice from an experiened hunter this year after tracking down a paunch shot doe. "Any shot on a wounded deer is a good shot" If he's hurt, and sounds like he is, it won't take much to put him down. GET ANOTHER ARROW IN HIM.
