superguide
The only true athlete's left are rodeo cowboys-no garantees -no contracts-you want to eat you cowboy up and ride. Hockey players might be overpaid but they aren't even close to the droid kings in basketball, football and baseball. You don't have to put any asterisks by Gretzky's records. OJR
Re: Last True Athlete\'s!!!! I agree with completely!! Professional athletes are just nothing but overpaid phonies!!! All they do is cry when they don't get an additional $10 million or so! The so-and-so's should have to work for a living!!!
lil hunter
Re: Last True Athlete\'s!!!! I agree that they are over-paid, but i have to disagree about NFL, NBA etc players not being athletes. They wouldn't be playing if they weren't athletes. Do you have any clue how many hours those guys put in during the off-season to get better??
dodge4x4
Re: Last True Athlete\'s!!!! lol, even tho football is my favorite sport along with rodeo, i do agree that they are overpaid people cause a their roids...lol

DSGB
Re: Last True Athlete\'s!!!! Overpaid according to whom? Would you rather the owners keep all the money, when the players are drawing the crowds. Their salaries reflect the amount fans spend to see them play. As far as them not being athletes, well, I don't want to sound rude, but, can you do it?
superguide
Re: Last True Athlete\'s!!!! A true athlete doesn't need ten million dollars to play a sport he loves-redundant whether i can do it or not. It's sickening when the average wage earner can't afford to take his family to see a game.

Ticket prices keep going up because of the owners and players demanding large contracts and bottom lines. Makes me sick.....
hoosierhunter
Re: Last True Athlete\'s!!!! the juice people are in baseball b/c they don't have any regulations to stop it(most rediculous organization in pro sports)....The NBA without a doubt has more crybabies than anysport. The NFL has a few bad apples that give the league a bad name.....NHL, man they need to quit whining and play the darn game..... My solution is a straight salary cap for every team that is determined by your sport.....No more Yankees buying teams.......Thus ticket prices can drop b/c with a salary cap everyone will realize finally where all the money goes...OWNERS...... In terms of the hours put in by athletes...It's a huge amount....i graduated from college in May of 04 and I was a college football player and man the hours are serious.....It's a full time job to say the least, but if you love it that isn't a problem...The problem occurs when these athletes are only concerned about money and not playing for the love of the game....People need to set better examples for our young kids and make them realize that money isn't everything these days...... Why don't the owners lower ticket prices....lower food prices.....If they'll do that, I'll be all aboard a hard salary cap. But in sports these days, someone is always making the money. If ticket prices go up...salaries should go up. I'd much rather have the players benefiting from the excess than the owners. Same way with any job. If a company begins making more money, the employees should reap the benefits along with ownership. Professional sports are coming to a crossroads. The NHL is stuck at the crossroads right now....The NFL has been there but will be back...Same goes with MLB. If they're gonna charge me an arm and a leg to watch a game....I want the players to get at least the arm..... Here's another point to ponder...When a franchise decides it needs a new stadium, who fits the bill or at least part of it?? The fans

If people would go on strike like the players do, then we could get their attention, but it ain't gonna happen! The players can stick together (players union) just like the minority groups do, therefore getting what they want.
Guest Finn
Re: Last True Athlete\'s!!!! Brett Favre's my favorite player. He made $708,000 per game for this year. That'll take me over 10 years to make and I just ain't forkin out $200 per ticket to watch him play. Reminder, golfers don't make a dime prize money without performance - example, every Friday night there is a cut and those who don't make the cut, make nothing for that tournament. Average golfers do get a little sponsor money. But I think they have to have success to get much over expenses. For the record, I think cowboys are crazy for what they make vs the price they pay. superguide
Re: Last True Athlete\'s!!!! you don't have to be crazy to be a cowboy but it sure helps-the last ten years or so you see alot more emphasis on fitness in rodeo-guys working out in the gym etc either to eliminate or rehab injuries-used to be they just traveled and rode. superguide
Re: Last True Athlete\'s!!!! Rob Smets is the man in my opinion-i have kids in every sport going including rodeo and it's definately a different atmosphere behind the chute-your fellow riders are more like family than competitors.
