muggs
My buddy wanted to get into bowhunting and he asked me to get him into it and I agreed. So, I put him in my favorite area. This spot is a right off a thin strip of woods that they use to bed and travel through. This time of year bucks use it A LOT...any way, long story short, the poor guy has already missed two bucks there which I like to think I would have been able to stick. He doesn't really know antler size yet, so I showed him a picture of a 150" ten pointer to see how he thought it woudl compare and he said it was about that size...think I need to tell him I have a "better" area for him to hunt so we can switch stand locations. MichiganHunter
omg....move him the crap out of there.....lol.....I have always thought that people loose alot of respect for hunting when the first deer they kill is some monster....get him on a good doe, lot less pressure with that.....and Put me in that stand:)

muggs
I have always thought that people loose alot of respect for hunting when the first deer they kill is some monster....get him on a good doe, lot That's actually a really good point man. He knows enough to know the deer was big, but he doesn't know just exactly how big. And the first deer he saw there was a buck, and it was about 2 hours into his first hunt ever so I'm getting the impression he thinks you see bucks evertime you're in a stand and half the time they're 150" deer.:hammer1: I don't want to rub the fact he just missed a wall hanger in too much, but at the same time I sort of let him know he probably won't have a deer like that come that close to him for the rest of the year. Hopefully one of us does, but slim chance...
buckee
You are just going to have to tell him how lucky he is that he missed that one, because it is a diseased buck.:clown:
sskybnd
maybe muggs you should take a climber back there too, that way if a monster should walk by, tell him its just a little out of range for a beginner.
Stone Cold
That is funny! You should print off a picture of a HUGE monster and then tell him it was taken from a different stand and you want him to kill it! LOL

bbarnhart20
Just let him hunt the stand. I'm sure you've never missed any deer huh? You're the one that put him there in the first place so help him out, get his practice in, and teach him what you know about hunting. Be a "friend"

That's exactly what I'm doing, I'm just venting/lamenting a little here if that's okay with you. It's called "tongue-in-cheek." Okay? btw- yeah, back at it Toddy. It feels good. Jeramie
He may actually be more effective at killing a doe. His buck fever is getting the best of him. Let him cut his teeth on a slick head.

Think of it this way, if both of you shot a 75" whitetail and combined their scores, you would still be 3" shy of what I typically shoot. Let me see how many 153" bucks you tag in outside of the deer mecca you live in, cheech. They're there in Portage Co. just not nearly as common. I'm going to get one though. I had a nice 8 pointer skirt by about 60 yards away at dusk last night. I have next Weds off so I'm burning two day leave and hunting it hard Weds- Sunday. Haven't done that in a while.
