wyohunter
or shoot a 22 for awhile, the more you get familiar with the gun the better you will get....think about your breathing, slowly exhale a breath and squeese the trigger, think about that, not the recoil. trust me, nobody here has ever felt the recoil, when shooting at a deer, just a target

Swamphunter
my very first gun ive shot is the 12 gauge That is more than likely why you flinch every time. Get the .
fly
Might want to try sighting in using a lead sled. For most people the flinching gets worse the longer you shoot and the more kick your shoulder absorbs.
The_Kat
your scared of one of two things.....the kick or the noise. Get some ear muffs, and a butt pad or a .22 and practice shooting it. I had the same thing happen to me when I went from shooting a .223 with a butt pad to my .270 with no pad at age 10 and I jerked like crazy. Put ear muffs on me and I was fine. backwoods07
When you pull the trigger, try to surprise yourself. Pull it slowly and steadily. You won't know exactly when the round will pop off.
Jeramie
Sounds like to need to go shoot some skeet. Im guessing you have target flinch from the recoil. A slug can kick the snot out of you... Practice with a sled and it should help. Practice is probably the best solution for that problem. Tominator
Get a buddy. Have the buddy load a spent shell, or a live shell, look away as he/she loads the gun. Shoot the gun as you're supposed to (deep breath, let half out, squeeeeeeze the trigger). You won't know if the gun is going to go off or not. After 10 tries, you'll be pretty much cured. I always sight in my gun a few days before i go out, and always feel the recoil. However when i'm huntin, i never feel it. Too concentrated on my shot placement than anything else. hyperflow
Personaly i had that problem also when i was younger because i duck hunted alot. I still have problems with that somtimes. But what i been doing now is before every shot i just sqeeze and let the gun suprise me when its going to fire. Its hard to do when a deer is infront of you but if you can calm your nervs and think about leting the gun suprise you you will do fine

Out of all the times I shot my 12 ga while hunting, I don't remember one time where I felt the recoil or heard the shot.
GWSmith
If your at your home and not somewhere you can shoot legally then try using "Snap Caps". Go through the routine you normally would trying to be suprised when the gun fires. http://www.tacticalresponsegear.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=22_162&products_id=3960&osCsid=6e8767b00ba4479d330eee1bfbe23e60
