How bout them Yanks?

I heard one sportscaster declare that spending $425 million on three players was "worth it now."

Really? Was it? If they took 0.0001% of that money and gave it to charity it could have changed lives...instead, they win their 27th title.

Where I'm standing, that seems like a complete waste and most definitely not "worth it."

Pro sports is really turning me off lately, spearheaded by MLB and that arsh clown Bud Selig. It's about as corrupt as 1920s Chicago. Give me a break.

Sour grapes from all the small market teams that have no farm system. The Yankees have the experience(core 4), and money does not necessarily always buy the championship. The Yankees have not won the WS since spankin' the Mets in 00. They spent wildly those last 8 years and didn't win squat.

Jeter,Posada, Pettite, Girardi all have a few rings. That matters. Add Burnett's ring also.

No doubt it is ridiculous what these players are being paid. The games in NY and many other stadiums are out of reach for regular families with the ticket prices. They get no money from me. Matter of fact...I took money from them for 9 years when I worked at the Stadium in the TV industry ;).

It was good for NY revenue wise and a great way to break in a new stadium.

BTW...where are the Boston fans?:clown:

Dude, you live in upstate NY...no where near NYC...would you be claiming them if they lost 100 games every year? I think not.

Anyway, they don't win anything with out Texiera and CC...it's actually pathetic that they don't win every year with that payroll. Absolutely pathetic and what a waste of resources.

Muggs...I live 40 miles north from Manhattan,2 miles east of the Hudson river and 32 miles from Yankee stadium in The Bronx. I grew up in The north east Bronx( Pelham Bay area). Lived there 26 years before getting married and moving to the burbs in Rockland. Take a look at the map as to where Rockland county is. My post said I worked there in the TV industry. How would I commute?... By helicopter? :pop:

Well...actually. I grew up in the late 60's and 70's when Yankee stadium was no place to be anywhere near(crime and just overall bad neighborhood). Shea Stadium was closer to where we lived in The Bronx. Right across the Whitestone bridge. We went to 10x more Met games than Yankee games. My appreciation for the Yankees grew with my employment there for 9 years. I was at the 73 World Series of the Mets against the A's, still have the ticket stub:). I also still wear #24 on any uniform because of the ball Willie Mays threw me at game 1 during warm up. Shea Stadium was a much safer place at the time I grew up. So that is where we went. Heck... I still have ticket stubs from when the Yankees played at Shea Stadium while their place was being renovated in 74-76. I spent a lot of time at Yankee stadium as a worker(93-01) and I have to tell ya, when post season came you actually felt the magic in the air.

Good bait...I must admit with the crossgun comment, but I ain't biting:D.

I give the Yankee's organization ALOT of credit for investing money into players that win. You might call it buying a team. I like to look at it as re-investing fans money in order to win. Let's look at the other teams in MLB and we'll find that Boston, LA, Chicago etc. etc. etc. all have the same kind of available cash, yet choose to pocket it instead of putting a winning team on the field.

Congratulations Yankees..................whether you bought it or built it...........you deserve it.

Being halfway between Philadelphia and NYC I find it all amusing. I have always been a Phillies fan since the first game I remember attending was at old Connie Mack Stadium. I think ot was $2.00 to get in the game. Back when. I always hated the Yankees. Not because of their payroll, but for two guys I grew up with who actually thought they were Bobby Richardson and Roger Maris. Yankee this, Yankee that! Drove me nuts. Then all those North Jersey NY transients that I worked with that were really overbearing in their obsession for the team. They were like a gang and if you said anything negative or had a competitors shirt on. Drove me nuts.

The bottom line is that these guys are playing a game. The pay they get (especially, the Yankees) is way out of line with most of those who watch. I don't buy the return on the investment stuff. When it gets real for the everyday people to be able to afford a game then maybe I'll have more respect for the big leagues. I watch the game as entertainment just as I watch the fans...

And yes, muggs, crossbows are cool! Just not in the true archery seasons....:clown:

Dont hate the player, hate the game.

Fact is that small market teams just cant compete in major league baseball. And some owners choose to keep their money, others choose to use it to sign players, those are usually the teams that win championships. That why in MLB, the same teams generally win or are in it every year. Its not like the NFL where one year a team can suck and the next year be the complete opposite.

I wish people would cut the money crap...that aint what wins a championship. Talent and experience does.

Man....talk about backwards logic...their money allows them to buy the talent and other teams can't keep their talent because the Yankees offer them 25 million a year.

Now, you get it?
