How bout them Yanks?

Dont hate the player, hate the game.

Fact is that small market teams just cant compete in major league baseball. And some owners choose to keep their money, others choose to use it to sign players, those are usually the teams that win championships. That why in MLB, the same teams generally win or are in it every year. Its not like the NFL where one year a team can suck and the next year be the complete opposite.

Exactly, and that is the problem.:hammer1:

Man....talk about backwards logic...their money allows them to buy the talent and other teams can't keep their talent because the Yankees offer them 25 million a year.

Now, you get it?

The Yankees have had the same talent on the field for several years. They dont go and sign the newest best players in MLB every year. They have had their talent for a while. Other ball clubs could do the same thing. Maybe the scouts for the Yankees just know what to look for? :hammer1:

But I guess when a team wins the championship, some people have to make up excuses why their team didnt. Its cool...I understand.

Yeah, it's remarkable how they're able to keep all that talent together too? I guess they just like playing there in New York and are just playing for the love of the game really. I mean it's not like Jorge Posado is making 15 million a year...oh wait, he is making that much.

Dude, if you want a schooling in sports I'll gladly give it to you. Just ask nicely.

Matter of fact bro-ham, you add up Posada's contract with Jeter's and Rivera (all long standing Spanky veterans) it totals $49 million. The entire Pittsburgh Pirates payroll is $48 million and they're not even the lowest payroll in MLB. So yeah, I guess money has a little something to do with keeping the "same talent" on the field all these years. But, if you say $$$$$ has nothing to do with it, and you obviously know what you're talking about, I'm sure there are 31 other GMs out there that would love to know what the secret is.

When you're talking Yankees sucess, it comes down to one thing, $$$$$$. You're kidding yourself if you think otherwise.

There, now school is out for today. Pop quiz tomorrow, subject will be announced at that time. I'll give you a clue though, the subject will somehow involve "other things you are completely wrong about." Good luck.:hammer1:

Wow, you seriously have way to much time on your hands.

Again...like I said...excuses. Some people just cant stand to lose. Even though they know that the winner is better, they still just cant admit it. So they come up with excuses.

Oh and I will be happy to show up to school again tomorrow...I love to make teachers look stupid in front of the class.

Wow, you seriously have way to much time on your hands.

What was your first clue? This is kinda what I do here, newb.

How is it an excuse when the fact is they're the highest payroll in all of baseball? You're saying money has nothing to do with it, it's the talent that does it. While it is true that the talent is what wins it for them, the fact remains it's their deep pockets that unables them to bring in, and keep said talent.

I'm just pointing out how skewed your logic is.

This may be hard for you to grasp, but if $$$ brings in talent, and talent wins then $$$$ is the key factor. You see?

It's actually very simple when you have someone with my kind of time to explain it to you. Anyway, it's probably not hard for you to make a teacher look stupid as it's fairly obvious the school system is not really a priority for the state of Kentucky. To earn a teaching license there, you probably only need to meet a few requirements. 1) You need to be able to spell "dagnum" and 2) you need a reliable vehicle.

I'll be in at 9am tomorrow with your quiz.

Oh wow you can make jokes. You forgot to mention that we gotta have a least 4 teeth. Dude if you are gonna make fun of me...atleast be a little creative. :hammer1:

You know what I find really interesting is that I am simply discussing what this thread is about...the Yankees, but YOU want to make remarks about me and where I am from. You must be a little frustrated. Oh no... someone actually opposes your opinion and what you think.

Now back to the subject.

I would agree with you about the Yankees if they won the championship every other year or every two years. Maybe even if they won it once every three years. But since this is their first in 9 years...im having a hard time buying it.

Ripping on southerns for not having teeth is creative now? That's been a little played out wouldn't you say?

Thicken that skin up a little, Buddy. Just dish it back out and let's be men about it.

Check this out...it was their 27th title...

And if that's not enough (although it should be), the fact that people say "it's been a long time (Jeter)" in reference to the 9 years without one sort of proves my point. The Cubs haven't won a World Series since Teddy Roosevelt was in office, and the Indians haven't won since 1947. That is a long time. Nine years is a blimp.

But in a sense I agree with you. With their spending it's kind of sad they don't win it every year...or at least every other year. Really all that speaks to is their willingness and ability to spend money, albeit sometimes foolishly (i.e. Carl Povano, Chuck Knoblauch, Jaret Wright, Jose Contreras, Kei Igawa).

Is the ability to throw money with a sucess rate around 50% the watermark of a great franchise? Me thinks not.

Anyways, thanks for this opportunity. I haven't schooled anyone on here this bad since my boy buckbuster11 used to post in here. It was a nice release of some pent up creative energy.

Aaaahhhhh, it feels nice. This is probably how DaVinci felt after he finished the Mona Lisa.

PS- he was a famous Italian artisan/inventor/philosopher. Wiki should have some info on him if you're interested. Here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leonardo_da_Vinci

Yeah you schooled me alright...for sure..yep

Honestly if your ego needed that much of a lift then Im happy for you.

Yeah Im not sure Da Vinci felt so great after painting the Mona Lisa. He was probably like...Dang, I look better as a woman than I do as a man. Im sorry if you are experiencing these mixed emotions as well.

Baseball is a business period.

Where folks get all antsy is the defending of ones favorite team. When Goldman Sachs hires the best brokers on Wall st and they make billions; do folks hate them because they are successful? Like the Yanks.

If the small market owners are NOT making any money, they do not have to stay in that business. It is a status thing I am sure.

OR...in the name of Communism...

should other teams subsidize the payrolls of other teams so they can compete? Should Ford give GM $ because they are not selling enough cars? Should Betty Crocker not make good cakes because Duncan Hines can't?

Yes, the big market teams have the money. But that does not always make them winners. It gives them a better shot than other teams, but it does not guarantee a win.

If a corporation(ball team) wishes to re invest in their company. They make capital improvements(new stadium), hire the best they can afford(star players) and build up the hype to the people spending the $$$.

Baseball has a lot to do with money, but you still have to throw a strike and you still have to make contact with that ball.

The small market owners could always sell or walk away if they are not making any money. When was the last time you saw that?

A owner telling the public he can't make any money because our market is too small and they can't afford any big name players.

It just doesn't happen.

Baseball is a business period.

Football is also a business, but they've implemented a salary cap and that's created great parity among the ranks...it's also why the NFL is about 1000 times more popular than MLB.

But, it looks like greed (Capitalist greed mind you) might make the NFL do away with their salary cap if this proposed CBA goes through. If that happens, it will be the start of a downward trend in the NFL.

btw- Honestly, you really shouldn't be knocking Communism at this point. Our Capitalist system is pretty much in shambles. We no longer manufacture anything, China has all of our dollars, our Government is slowing taking over our free markets...so from where I'm sitting, looks like those Commies in China have a huge edge on us right now.

btw- Toddy, Oden is doing some very nice things in Portland now and is constantly in foul trouble. Once he gets that worked out, he'll be a 12 and 15 guy with about 4-5 blocks per game as he completely clogs the middle of the lane.

With Aldridge next to him, and Roy slashing it's going to be fun to watch.

As I've stated all along, he won't fill up the pretty little stat sheet like Durant, but Durant cannot defend and pretty much a liablity out there. When Portland makes the playoffs this year you'll see Oden's importance. Besides, that's not completely right off a 21 year old as a "flop," okay?

That's almost as reactionary as ESPN telling everyone Michigan was "back" after they beat Central Michigan...you won't hear Stuart Scott on the air saying how wrong he was about that considering they're 1-5 in the Big Ten with their win coming against Indiana.

No thank you. I will take free market principles any day.

Good or bad. The commies have the advantage now.

BUT...they are not free people ;).

It is the SOFT brain of humans that feel the need to prop up others who are not doing so good. Be it the economy, baseball or life.

(religion takes care of the life part/faith).

You do not have what is needed to survive...so long fella.

Natural selection rules.

Maybe Gazelles should have a bailout plan so they do not get eaten by lions. Same thing for cute bunnies.

Ha. You're the guy who's taking that to mean I'm supporting Communism, which doesn't really surprise me because I had a feeling you were going to do that. And who am I "propping" up?

I'd actually love the opportunity to work out this whole natrual selection deal and decide who out of the two of us is the "soft" one with a few pairs of 16 oz. boxing gloves. Maybe we could have a live video feed on the forums here? We could probably raise some money and donated it a to a good cause. This lovely free market of ours put a lot of people out of jobs, maybe we can find a way to get that $$ to them? I think it sounds like a worthwhile use of our time.

Anyways dude, I get it. Choices are hard for you, what you need is someone strong to guide you. I'm willing to be that person. Just throw your weekly monterary donation in the basket and do as I say!!

Some people were born to follow, others were born with the ability to think for themselves and question what they're spoonfed...the latter can actually be very trying at times, but I feel I owe it to my fellow man to deal with it, sort it out, and pass it along to help them progress.

That's sort of a Buddhist line of thought- you probably think that damns me to eternal flames, don't you?

Your propping up small market teams that cannot compete. Betcha your a fan of welfare too. Work harder so someone else don't have to.

I must say this, and I am sure you know it too...you are SO VERY FULL of yourself.

You must really think you ARE Yoda. Just pick a subject, any subject. I wonder if you dress up in the robes and such as you type your all knowing diatribes, fluffing up your ego as you tell folks your gonna school them. My friend you have NO idea what school is. You can talk a good game and are quite creative with your writings. But in your little protected world behind the PC, you have NO IDEA what school is.

Not ESPN vernacular.

OH yeah...did ya look up where I live? Am I close to NYC? You said I lived in way upstate NY. You were wrong.

Ya see where Da Bronx is? Lived there 26 years.

Tell me more about school, and we ain't talking about beating someone on a lay up and getting the foul.

Man, that's actually a great, great line. You got to take things here with a grain of salt, bud. We used to go on tangents in the sports room all the time, and I appreciate people who give it back to me...afterall, a sports forum shouldn't be taken all that serious (like Adjam does, getting all into the subject of ego and it's limiting factors on spirituality:rolleyes:). You held your own though, hopefully we'll disagree on something else in the near future. It breaks up the day, ya know?

As for you Adjam, I love your thoughts on ego, pretty spot on. But If you're going to get so preachy, I wouldn't be so quick to judge. That's actually very hypocritical for a Christian. You can say I have an ego problem, but you're the one passing major judgements...what makes you think you're in a position to do that? Mabye I'm not the only one with an ego problem? Also, I'd suggest you learn to take things a little less serious. This is a sports room of a hunting forum...this won't make or break your week, at least it shoudn't.

I mean, I thought I threw out some off the wall analogies, but how in the world did you go from supporting the Yankees to economic systems to casting a judgement on me saying I lack the ability to live life? I don't think you'll find that on the church wall.

I'll leave you with this:

"As water reflects a face, so a man's heart reflects the man." (Pr 27:19)

Comtemplate your own reflection, then maybe you'll see none of us are in a position to pass such harsh judgements through "our protected" little computer world here.

Also, I'm not sure if this in the Good Book anywhere, but I thought I remember reading "judge not thee that carry a crossbow for thee are only trying to enjoy the great sport of hunting!"

Later taters.

Yup we all have egos. But I am not the one who goes around telling everyone that they are wrong at the way they look at things. Look at how you spoke to Ethan? Very condescending and quite inflammatory to many with your responses.

I am Christian. No doubt. But I am also human. Big deal I judge. Everyone does whether they admit it or not. I never said you have no ability to live life. I just said soft people feel the need to help everyone, even small market teams that cannot win. I do my charity my own way. Salary caps are like limiting how much money a business can make. Why doesn't IBM have a salary cap? It is a business also. That is where the economy came in. I do not claim to be a perfect Christian. That is why there is confession for us Catholics ;).

Good jousting with ya Muggs. It does make the day go by:).

Honestly guys Im not a Yankees fan...I just like baseball in general. I just get tired of people bringing up the money issue everytime the Yanks win something. Give it a rest.

I believe I was posting about this crap a few post before ol Muggys showed up. ;)

And the yanks money thing is NEVER going to go away as long as they continue to pay the payroll they do.

Dominate Center of a franchise he is not.....:bat:

Ethan you need to calm down a bit ;).....This is muggsy being....well muggsy.

We have had countless discussions....not arguments about sports crap just like this. Go do a search on some discussion about Oden, or is Nascar a Sport or steriods, or Cleveland Browns and Steelers.

In all honestly the sports room use to be a ton of fun because of discussions such as this....but they don't seem to happen as much any more......and probably because a couple people got all upset. When truly all we were doing is debating sports.....yeah sports.
