92xj
conversation overheard on the VHF Guard (emergency) frequency 121.5 MHz while flying from Europe to Dubai . It's too good not to pass along.. The conversation went like this... Iranian Air Defense Radar: 'Unknown aircraft you are in Iranian airspace. Identify yourself.' Aircraft: 'This is a United States aircraft. I am in Iraqi airspace.' Air Defense Radar: 'You are in Iranian airspace. If you do not depart our airspace we will launch interceptor aircraft!' Aircraft: 'This is a United States Marine Corps FA-18 fighter. Send 'em up, I'll wait!' Air Defense Radar: (no response .... total silence) God bless our troops. c_lou
That is awesome but... Isn't the FA-18 a Navy aircraft?
92xj
The FA-18 was derived from the YF-17 in the 1970s for use by the United States Navy and Marine Corps.

MonsterBuck48
i wonder if everyone knows that the marine corps a part of the navy. and as a fleet marine we have a saying My A Rides In Navy Equipment hence the FA-18 Semper Fi
Hoosierbuck
Lots of the Marines I know don't like to admit the ties to the Navy, and like your acronym, at least one has said, "We just used the squids for a ride to the fight!" I am just typing what I have heard-never been in the service so I have no particular allegiance to one branch, just the country they all serve. So...don't scream at me Navy guys. Hoosierbuck
That little radar monitor was probably just glad his pilots are the ones that would be meeting their maker, not him...
dbHunterNY
I haven't seen that before. Good post though. Gets me pumped up and I'm not even in the military. MonsterBuck48
well dnt get me wrogn i would never join the navy or the army or air force. ive seen first hand the difference in trainging and the mentality that marines hold. theres a reason we're first to fight, and last ones out, the president 911 call. every other branch needs an act of congress to go the marines just need a phone call from the big chief himself, always ready and always faithful. i signed my name to the best.sorry if i went to far with that. and thank you

Strut10
Isn't air superiority just too cool??? Just ask a couple of Libyan M iIG-23 pilots who tried to intercept two pairs of Navy F-14 Tomcats over the Gulf of Sidra a few years back.
