Abolishing long gun registry

Right now, the government seems to be sitting on both sides of the fence trying to appear to be sympathetic to both sides. On the one hand, they keep "TALKING" about abolishing the long gun registry because they know that their talk will draw support from rural and western Canadians predominantly. Heck they even suspended the application costs temporarily and refunded several registrants their funds back. But by not actually carrying out their promise to do away with it, it is somewhat holding the staunch anti-gun supporters in their distant corner holding out that the registry will remain. Harper and his crew are endevouring to blame the Libs for holding off the abolishment of the long gun registry, but how hard have they actually been pushing it?

Is abolishing the long gun registry a good thing? If this is a survey, then my humble opinion would be "YES".

Is the long gun registry a good thing? Well so far it's been nothing but a bottomless money pit for taxpayers with little to no benefits from a crime reduction perspective. If ever a boondoggle resulted from government intervention and misguided legislation, this is surely one of them.

The 2 + billion that they've sunk into this beaurocratic hole already, could have been better spent in other programs that would have actually had the intended effect.
