Airman312
So I've been hunting now for 20+ years and had used a butcher to cut my deer for me for the first 13 years. Then I bought the needed supplies and have been doing it myself for the last 7 years.:hammer1: I just talked with our local butcher here in BS and he'll do a regular cut (nothing fancy) and vaccum wrap it all for $70.00 bucks!! Now I'm thinking again about letting him do some or most or all of them and not have my wife's kitchen messed up for hours on end. I realize that it's 70.00 bucks we could use else where but... the time and mess sure makes it tempting:clown: What do you all do and for those that use a butcher, how much are you paying?? okiedog
I just paid $70 for a standard cut this year and almost fell over. I am in the process of designing a building by my shop for skinning, butchering, and packing. I wont pay it again.
redkneck
I guess I'm at a loss here. You pay 70 bucks just to get it cut up and vacuum packed? Sounds high to me. I usually pay for grinding and smoked sausage, but do most of my cut meat and deboning myself to save money. Just got a new grinder in this week and hope to not pay anyone for anything this year. tp793
When we started hunting we used a butcher and it started out at $60 for a regular cut, and then it kept going up every year until it got ridiculous at $90. That's the same year we went out and bought all the stuff to do it ourselves. Kind of a pain to do it yourself but it is more rewarding knowing that you got your own deer (the place we used to go to just gave you the meat you paid for, didn't matter what deer it came from), and that you did it all yourself. We haven't used a butcher since. We just hang them up in the garage and have at it, gets a little messy but it all just hoses right out. RangerClay
Letting someone else cut my deer $70 Cutting my own deer. Knowing that I am getting MY own deer and all of MY meat. Priceless!!
Jeramie
Its about $70 - $75 around here too. If we are in a time pinch we will pay it. If not we process our own. We end up doing 90% of ours
AaronS
I do all of mine myself. A lot of work for one person to do but worth it to me. My local guy wants $70 to skin, debone, grind, and package. I shoot 3 to 5 deer per year, so that is out of the question. The kick-butt Cabela's electric grinder I bought a couple of years ago paid for itself in short order.
coles
My Dad, brothers, and I give all of our deer to one of my dads friends. All he eats is venison. All we eat is beef and elk. I had a whole doe made into jerky last year without figuring out how much it would cost me and it was a huge doe. Luckily the butchers are good people and gave me a deal and i only had to pay 1/2 of what it would have cost me. I think it ended up still costing me $70 or $80 for the jerky! My dad went in half with me though so he could keep some jerky so it wasnt too bad. We occasionally get some venison from my dads friend. So really all we have to do is shoot the deer, call him up, bring it to his house, help him skin it, and be done with it. Getting elk butchered is a whole other story
GWSmith
At home I do my own up into steaks and burger. I bought a Vacuam Sealer on the forums here in the classifieds so thats how all of it is packaged at home. Hunting out of state I have it done so it's cut, wrapped, and frozen for the trip home...I usually pay about $60 then to have it done.
