whitetailtrax
Has anyone been following this story? An alluminum bat maker was taken to court for not providing adequate warning about the potential dangers of using alluminum bats in baseball games. Unfortunately a young man (pitching at the time) lost his life after being struck in the head by a hit ball. I remember the incident well - happened here where I live. Very sad deal. The parents prevailed in this case against the manufacturer. I have mixed emotion about the company being found liable in this case. I coach little league and know full well the dangers. I will not let a child pitch that has less than average fielding abilities because I know it could be disasterous. I also warn all my parents of the dangers. At some point, parents need to make up their own mind about the dangers of sports. Kids die every year playing football and other sports. It is a risk we all take. I feel horrible for the family - I would never want to lose a child.....but I also have mixed feeling about the bat manufacturer taking the blame for this young mans death. Tough deal for sure. The_Kat
Just another ridiculous lawsuit in this sue happy country. This was a tragic accident that occured during a game. Tragic as it is, its just this thing we call life. It does happen. I don't care how good of a fielder you are, you can get pegged on the mound. Did you know that the average ball hit back to a pitcher is moving over 110 mph???? Try dodging that..... Whats sad is the parents profit from their kids death. joeaveragehunter
Sad thing but there should be a common sense law.
Adjam5
There are inherent risks to all activities children participate in. Especially football and baseball. While no doubt it was a tragic and sad incident , I do not think the bat manufacturer should be held liable. This is a sue happy society, so there you go.
