More to the buck I shot...

....than I thought. While cutting him up tongiht we just were to the end of cutting one of the back straps out and something gross came squirting out. Ends up this buck has a tumor on his right front shoulder. Tons of this oozey nasty puss. There were around 6 different holes that ooze was coming out of. We chucked the front half of the deer and took the back end and loins which were fine. Anyone ever experience this before? The buck had no signs of having a tumor while on the hoof. Guess I did him some good by getting him.

Yep, seen it a time or two over the years. Most likely just an abscess as mentioned above. Nasty thing to deal with, but I just cut a very generous place around it and kept the rest of the hind quarter. Same things people get, esp if you were stuck in the butt by a buck deer and had no access to medical care, let alone soap and water. :D

oh dear lord in heaven, I don't get grossed out easily but dont mess with my deer meat

No doubt. It is extremely disgusting, but you just gotta take a BIG cut around it and give it a pitch, wash your hands, wash them again, wash them again, lol... and keep cutting. It is obvious when you get into a place like that it is a localized infection, fully contained in a little area. I have also seen deer with open infections, maybe from a buckshot, these are the ones I'd worry about more.

Yeah it was definately not all over. Just one part. We pretty much cut from the ribs up off. Still plenty of good stuff on the hind quarters.

Yeah, I had that happen on a couple of occassions, like you had said, there was no sign of infection or anything on the outside of the deer. Started skinning them and BLAMO, out pops this thick green ooze. The best I could figure was an old wound to them. We just cut around the infected area and kept the rest, no problem with the meat or taste.
