Yesterday afternoon I headed back out to the farm I had the encounter with the big 8 on tuesday only I hunted a different stand cause of the wind. I really was not expecting much because it was windy and unseasonably warm for Illinois this time of year. Got on stand about 3pm and relaxed. The stand I am in and I have some history. The first year I hung this stand I missed a brute. My top pin fiber optic was broke and I didnt know it till I took the shot with a black pin in low light!! Fast forward a few years later and in the same stand. It was the day before gun season and Im in the same stand only it was crazy cold.(17 degree's) I had a really nice 8pt coming from my right. He gets to 20 yds. I pull back and my arrow comes off the nock!!! I let down and the deer jumps forward and then stops again and looks my way. I put the nock back on the arrow and drew on him again and would you know he moved to 30yds and I burried the 20 yd pin on him only to shoot right under him!!! Now lets fast forward to yesterday- I had not hunted this stand all season and the wind was perfect for this spot. The weather was really warm so I did not think I was going to see much but it was better than sitting on the couch. at about 4:20 I hear something in the creek to my right and then I see horns!! I was actually shocked to see this buck that early before dark. He came right to my stand in some brush went out into the clover field and passed in front of my stand at 18 yds. I was thinking chip shot!! WRONG!!! I had drawn back before he stepped out into the field and when he got into the opening(or so I thought) I released. Only to hit a freaking limb and it sent the arrow right over his back!!!!! This was a nice 3 1/2 year 9 point with really white massive horns and good brows!! Luckily he did not pick me out of the stand and had no clue what happened. Hopefully he will be back in the area.

Needless to say I broke that branch into a million pieces when I got out of the stand!!+
