RangerClay
I have a Browning BLR in .243 that I want to take with me every now and then this fall. Those of you who hunt with a .243, please tell me what brand, bullet type & weight do you shoot out of your guns and why?
dbHunterNY
One of my uncles uses a 243 cal rifle. It's a mossberg bolt action and he shoots the plain Federal blue box ammo. I don't know what grain though. I believe he got it due to less kick, so my aunt or his grandson can use it. I've seen him flinch a bit so I think it may be for him too. :taped:
DropTine49
A lot of people are using the Core-Lokt, because they are a good economical bullet. I only shoot Georgia Arms ballistic tips no matter the gun. Here are the .243 http://georgia-arms.com/243win.aspx , and I've killed a lot of deer with the 95 Grain ballistic tips. coles
Ive been thinking about getting a .243 for deer also. We sell 80 and 100 gr federal blue box ammo, same grains in corelokts, 85 gr federal premium triple shocks, and hornady light mag ammo. I would use any of the 100 grain ammo, or the triple shocks. Cant beat the triple shocks.
wtnhunt
My wife and daughter both shoot a .243 Joe. Wife shoots a savage model 10 and it will shoot about everything just fine, she uses the core lokt 100 grain pointed soft points. She has not had a deer shot with that gun/bullet leave the field. Christina shoots an A bolt microhunter, has a short barrel and it does not group as well with the core lokts, but does fine with winchester power points, also 100 grain. She has killed 2 does with it so far, got video of last years, and have video of this years as well but have not had time yet to play it back on the computer or even think about editing it. Neither of her does went at all far, maybe 25 yards on the one she shot the Sunday before last.
Ethan Givan
My dad has a Remington 700 BDL chambered in .243 and him and my brother have both killed a few deer with it. He has always used Remington core-lokts or Federal ammo both with 100 grain bullets. Its a sweet shooting gun.
Muleyman
Ya we use a Remington 710 .243 and it is a good gun. We use 100 grain bullets.
huntinman802
yup i love using my .243 and have killed tons of deer with mine. i use 85 gr. barnes hollow point hand loads. i tried 100, 90,75 gr. bullets out of it and i just had the best accuracy with the 85s so thats wat im using. they leave a nice hole too

bghunter777
Awesome caliber for deer sized game out to 300 yards! I have one and use it exclusively now. I have taken many deer with core loks 100 gr but currently use Federal silver tip ballistics 95 gr. great load! I have found i shoot this caliber more accurately than the larger 30-06s and up a well placed 243 is way more effective than a poorly placed 300 mag. Overall a more enjoyable expierience as well
hunterbobb
I use one but I would only use 100 gr Nosler Partion bullets or some other controlled expansion bullet. I have know Core Locts to blow up on our big Wisconsin Deer if you happen to hit a big bone. :gun2:
22_LR
Aint nothing wrong with core lokts, better than most high dollar bullets, blah, especially fusion.
Dakota
That .243 BLR is one sweet gun for sure; I shot two muley does in 2007 with my buddy's. I'd recommend Federal Power-Shok or Remington Core-Lokt 100 grain bullets. Dakota
Prairiepredator
A .243 is fine for deer. Just try not to make too far of shots with it.
hungry hunter
I still use one, Remington 700 ADL with Winchester 100 grain power points, why? because the AGE syndrom sneaks up on me every now and then. Never killed a deer with it yet but lots of hogs and over a hundred yotes.
