Squirrelhunter91
Got up to go sit at my usual tree and see what would be going on behind the house as far as the pre rut goes. On my way into the woods, I didn't bump or see a single deer which is very odd for back there. I got set up by 5:30AM and began my sit til daylight. Daylight rolled around and I didn't see a single deer. Usually I can see a few or have some underneath me just as it gets light out. 6:45 rolls around and I'm absolutely disappointed. Not a single deer. Then as I'm sitting there in self misery and pity, I catch movement up on the hill. It looked like a deer leg and a tail flick. Sure enough it was. 4 does make their way into my view but headed to my right down the trail 15 yards away. I draw the bow as they are on their way down the hill. I only had a small window to shoot through. So I sat there holding the bow at full draw in this window waiting for the lead doe to walk through it. First doe walks through the window, " Meh!", she doesn't stop. Second doe, " Meh!", doesn't stop either. Third doe, " BAH!", again, doesn't stop. Fourth doe, "BAAAAAAAAAAHHH!" doesn't stop. So all four of them wouldn't stop for me and they all run down to the stream bed. Then 2 minutes later they turn around and come running right back up towards me. Two hang up on the other side of the railroad bed, two cross and pass by me at 30 yards, but go running right back up the hill where they came from not even a minute earlier. Then 15 seconds or so later one doe comes running back down. I draw the bow and yell at her "HEY!" she freezes up and starts looking around broadside at 19 yards. THWACK! The Slick Trick tipped GoldTip ate her up real good. She went 30 yards and tipped over. Right about then is when I noticed the other two does that hung up were on their way back across. The big doe watched the one I just shot pile up and walked right up to it sniffing it wondering why it wouldn't get up. So I nocked another arrow anticipating a potential shot at another deer. A lone doe ended up coming off the top and back down to the other deer, two does and the dead one. They end up feeding on past me at a mere 10 yards. It actually turned out to be two does and a button buck. The button at one point actually tried sniffing up the does tail and she promptly turned around and gave him a whooping. But anyway, a big doe comes out in front of me at 10 yards. It was somewhat of a steep shot for me because I was 18 feet up and she was almost underneath me, but I felt I had a good enough angle into her vital area to take the shot. She was walking on by at 10 yards when I drew my bow and said " Meh!" She froze up and arrow #2 was on its way. THWACK! She kicked her hind legs and ran about 15 yards. She then walked another 10, button buck in tow and laid down right in front of me at 35 yards. I was trying to nock another arrow to get another shot in her because it did look a bit far back but just as I was getting ready to do that, a 6 point came down off the hill and started chasing her around. Bleeding and all. My entrance was high as expected and the exit was low. I called home, got my brothers to come out with the Cart of Death to help me take care of Doe #1. Once I climbed down with my Summit, a spike meandered on by me with his nose to the ground following the trail the does were all just on. I filmed him walking by. I recovered arrow #2 first because it was closest to the tree. It was all brown and smelled bad. Immediately I thought stomach and was sickened right away. Arrow #1 was coated in bright red blood with bubbles as expected. Double lung hit. Went over to doe #1 which turned out to be a doe fawn from this year. Didn't matter to me. It's meat. I decided to take care of the dead one and get her hung up. I was going to give the second doe a few hours to expire. I made some calls and texts and everyone said to give her about an hour and she would be dead. I ended up treating my brothers to breakfast for helping me out and they both said they would come back out later and help me find the other one. We went right to where I said she bedded down and found blood right away. It wasn't much, but it was blood. We followed blood all the way up to the thick swampy part of the property. I looked at this one tree and it had blood and hair on it. Then over the ledge and guess who lay at the bottom of the cliff? You guessed it! Doe #2. Dead as could be. I was soooo relieved at finding her. It was awesome. High fives all around between us. Even filmed the recovery. She was a big old doe and I believe she was the one I've been trying to kill all year because she was the only one with a button buck. In total, she only went about 100-120 yards. Probably because I let her go and didn't push her right after the shot. I dressed her right where she died and we dragged her up to take a ride in the Cart of Death. Upon dressing her, I found out I didn't touch the stomach with the arrow. Stomach was perfectly preserved. I got every bit of the liver and a piece of the lungs. How would that make my arrow brown though and smell? It was so awesome to accomplish my first big game double. I shot the first one at 6:55AM and the other at 7:05AM. Exactly 10 minutes apart from eachother. I was unable to get any in the field pics other than the few with my cell because my dad took the digital camera upstate with him. So the only in the field pics I have are off my cell. I did end up going to my buddies house later Saturday night and had his step dad take pics in the bed of the truck with his camera. But I'm not in camo or anything as you'll see. Doe #1 in the Cart of Death: One of doe #1's lungs with the perfect Slick Trick X through it: Doe #2 right where we found her: The two of them hanging in the garage together: I love this pic.. You can see doe #1 (closest to the camera) and the reason she only went 30 yards. Perfect double lung shot: Me and the does: Edited November 10, 2009 by Squirrelhunter91

Squirrelhunter91
Good shootin'. Where's the wide 8? The Wide 8 was killed on 10/24/09 by my buddy Mike. Sad to see that buck go down, but atleast it was by someone I know and not a car or an outsider.
