elkoholic
I was watching a hunting show on the Men's Channel the other night and was witness to a an interesting shot choice. This particular show is hosted by a former heavy weight boxer, Jerry Goff, and features the Draw-Loc device. The hunter placed his shot high on the left rear (butt) and the arrow angled down and forward into the chest cavitiy. Approximately six to eight inches of the arrow protruded from the haunch, and that would make the penetration at somewhere around 20 to 24 inches. After recovering the deer, he stated that he took that shot because he knew that the arrow would angle forward into the chest cavity. I have to give the man credit, for he is without the use of his left arm due to polio and with the aid of the Draw-Loc he is able to get out and bow hunt. I will, however, have to question the shot taken, and please, do not try this at home. The name of the show by the way is "KNOCKOUT! Hunting Adventures". Hillbilly
Re: arrow placement I'm not trying to take anything away from this bowhunter or his show, but if you place a shot, that unethical you don't know what will happen or know where arrow will come out. Every shot needs to be at least a close lung shot. That puts them down pretty quick.
Norm Sauceman
Re: arrow placement The DHNA is proud to have an affiliation with the Draw-Loc. It is an awesome device. Now that Knight and Hale are coming out with the new "Steady Rest", the two will revolutionize the physically challenged and how they hunt. I am proud to state that I was a tester for teh Steady Rest and I fully support it. It is just going to be AWESOME!!!!
buckee
Re: arrow placement A very unethical shot in my book too! That's a lot of goodies to go through before you even reach the kill zone. It's a shot based on luck of not hitting any bone on the way there and I personally don't like my deer gut shot, if I can help it.
Hillbilly
Re: arrow placement and also that deer will die very very slow, and the Yotes and predators will be right behind them.....

buckee
Re: arrow placement [ QUOTE ] but isn't ethics also judged upon how fast an animal dies and how little it suffers? [/ QUOTE ] I think your confusing ethics with luck in this case ...JMO I'd like to see that same hunter, make that same shot on a couple more deer and be just as successful in recovering it. I think you'd find that 1 or maybe 2 out of 3 would be running around, unrecovered, with either their guts severely damaged, but not immediately fatal, or an arrow stinking out of their butts. I don't call that ethical. Again...Just My Opinion

Guest KSNimrod
Re: arrow placement Could he not have put the shot forward a bit more and gone in behind the ribcage? Without seeing the shot it's hard for me to visualize exactly what he was looking at.
Rhino
Re: arrow placement To intentionally take a shot like that is unethical in my book too. Sometimes bad hits happen unintentionally to just about everybody sooner or later. There is little chance that penetration will go all the way into the chest cavity. He was just trying to justify a bad decision.

Tominator
Re: arrow placement An elevated "Texas heart shot"? Are you kidding me? Sounds like a marginal shot made even more marginal to me. I think I'll pass that shot 100 times out of 100.
