Finally...big buck encounter

Finally saw a monster tonight...what a beauty...dark antlers, tall tines...oh boy...

Around quarter after 4 I'd guess, 4-5 does came through, out too far for a shot, hanging in some thick stuff. They went out to a grass field that I'm about 50 yards in the woods from. I hear a deer moving through the hemlocks behind me so I turn...can't see it. So I watch the does and next thing I know a massive dark body with a big rack comes trotting up the field edge, nose to the ground, to the does! They turn and run back into the woods. I grunt at him and he stops...looks...turns and starts walking down towards a trail that comes in to me...he stops and looks for the source of the grunting...when he doesn't see he, he turns back again and goes in to the corner where the does ran in...they ran in that back in front of me into some other hemlocks. Well he follows their trail, I grunt again...he takes some steps towards me but doesn't see the other "buck" and meanders off following where the does went...which seemed to be up towards another stand.

So should I hunt this same stand in the AM or hunt a different stand that is in the same area some what, but up a little bit...kinda towards where they were all headed?

I got a week and a 1/2 to put a buck on the ground with a bow...

I would hunt there in the a.m., and if it didn't pay off, move in on him tomorrow evening early. His nose to the ground, I would scent up my boots with some Tinks or whatever you use. Walk in the woods as close to the area (trail) he was, then to your stand, walk around in front of your stand b4 you go up, to keep him occupied and help set up the shot. Just my $.02.........Good Luck......I hope you get him.

B.T.W.---I'm guessing you get off FAWN status by the # of post you put up. I have been a member since Sept. 08 but still a fawn, I was innactive for a long time. What is the #'s to progress to a bigger buck....Lol

I'm excited for you Ruth...I know your going to put that tag on a big one soon;)

Yeah me too. :) Are you using any Estrus scent Ruth? If not, it sure would be an excellent time to use it. Drag a scent rag into your stand with you, spray some around in front where you'd prefer him to stop, and hope for the best.

I'd hunt the same stand, just in case they do go by the other one in the morning, but maybe too dang early.

Thanks guys...my mom was going out today, I said if you make it to Walmart, pick me up some doe estrus scent, lol.

This morning had a buck sneak through, same area, going into the heavy stuff...couldn't see the rack well but big body and nice rack from what I could see....grunted at him, he didn't stop..had his nose on the deer trail...shortly after 2 does came from the other way down to the field...went out in the field...either got a slight wind of me or cut my trail...they went back in where they came from...Might hunt a different stand tonight, but in general area...or maybe same one..I dunno yet...
