Keep Deer OUT?!!

In the past i have planted summer peas and the deer eat them down to the dirt. I want to plant the summer peas in a new area and I was wondering if anyone had any helpful advice as to how to keep the deer out until the peas are ready. I know i could put up an electric fence but that will be a little out of my budget after buying fence posts and what not.

given I dont know how large your plot is but my step dad uses this as our plot technique. We plant the plot and take half of it and use snow fencing it's about 3 ft tall and we double it up so it is 6 ft tall and we angle the top half out away from the bottom fence so it makes it harder for the deer to jump...he got the fence at menards on their rebate program, so he bought the fencing and sent in the rebate and got it for free.....it woorks well....kind of a pain to put up he's spending this winter to try to find a new way to hang it.....he's considering putting in perminant posts that he can plant around (so their spread out) and then he can hang once it's planted and let it grow.

Don't know how well the plot saver tape works, but might give it a try. We use an electric fence around our garden and it is very effective. Plots with peas in them if you are intending them to be food plots for deer might plant some sorghum with them, won't stop the deer from eating the peas, but might help give them a chance.

There are several products out there like a spray that is mostly rotten egg smelling liquid. There is the tape you can put up (save a plot I think). Only problem is, if it rains the liquid can wash off in 2-3 weeks. So unless you live relatively close to the plot it may not be an option.

Never used it, but i know some that swear by the rotten egg stuff. Sounds easy enough and maybe even take TTID up on the radio idea. They sure do love them young tender peas and will go to great lengths to get them.
