Another thing you might do then, Alan, is instead of constantly walking ditches (walking them isn't a bad thing, it's just the constantly part) is drive around looking for birds and you'll cover more ground. Pheasants will especially become vulnerable towards evening when they hang around gravel roads and fly from corn and bean fields into CRP or long grass fields to roost. Also, things will get a LOT better when all the fields are harvested and almost the only cover pheasants have are in the ditches. Hope this helps!

You say you hunt alot of ditches and road ways....how may other people do you think hunt them. Find the areas that look go that most people dont hunt. You can try a program like www.bingmaps.com and look at photos of you public hunting property and you might find honey holes that people arent getting into...but once you get snow that will start to clump up the birds and it should get a lot bettern than.
