Dakota
Well, if it's legal in your area, I'd just road hunt or walk small patches of cover. And like Chris said, tracking them works well too.
ALAN
i road hunt all the time noone has ever stopped me or said anything...i walk miles and miles of ditches looking for a big fat rooster..one of these days ill connect
Dakota
Another thing you might do then, Alan, is instead of constantly walking ditches (walking them isn't a bad thing, it's just the constantly part) is drive around looking for birds and you'll cover more ground. Pheasants will especially become vulnerable towards evening when they hang around gravel roads and fly from corn and bean fields into CRP or long grass fields to roost. Also, things will get a LOT better when all the fields are harvested and almost the only cover pheasants have are in the ditches. Hope this helps! ALAN
yeah some crops getting out know would it be better to wait till it gets colder with snow on ground? roosters stick out like a sore thumb then...lol
Dakota
I'd say just keep at it, how long does pheasant season run in Iowa? Ours runs through January 3rd I believe here in SD.

MichiganHunter
You say you hunt alot of ditches and road ways....how may other people do you think hunt them. Find the areas that look go that most people dont hunt. You can try a program like www.bingmaps.com and look at photos of you public hunting property and you might find honey holes that people arent getting into...but once you get snow that will start to clump up the birds and it should get a lot bettern than.
