TN Bucknasty
How many of my fellow 45-70 lovers are out there? How long have you been hunting with it? What sort of bullets are you shooting and what kind of performance do you get out of it? What all states allow it during Muzzleloader season? I shoot a 400grain flatnose speer moving about 2,100fps. I love it. I've killed out to 325yds with it. That's with my Marlin lever action. I soup it up a bit when shooting my Browning Single shot. There's usually very little meat damage despite so much shock and knockdown power. I've heard people gripe about accuracy. It's not bad at all, you just have to calculate the drop. Helps if you don't shoot factory ammo, too. They have to be careful because of all of the old guns still being used.
Strut10
I've got a 45-70. But it's one of the oldies. It's an 1873 Springfield. Fun gun to shoot!! Took it deer hunting a couple times, but never had too many good opportunities for shots.

Very cool.
hungry hunter
A close friend of mine is selling his Ruger #1 in 45-70 and I was considering buying it. He would like to get $700.00. Does that count, also a 3x9x40 Leupold on top!
TN Bucknasty
That would be a fine weapon. I think you'd be very pleased with the performance especially if you hunt thick cover.

redkneck
I hunt with a 45-70 now during our "primitive" season. I've shot 3 with it and ended up dragging a couple of them farther than I'd like. Going to shoot Hornady ballistic tips this year and see how it goes. I shoot the 400gr. flatnosed bullets and I've never had one go more than 25 yards. Most just drop.
DocMort
The LE's do there job out of the 450 and a 35 rem, so I am believe they will out of the 45/70 also.
stcif
No experience with the caliber but my next gun someday is going to be a Marlin lever action 45-70. I just love them and think it would be a great deer gun.
quigleysharps4570
Have shot a few thousand rounds of that particular cartridge. Haven't shot it lately...been playing with the 45-60 levergun. Just a shorter version of the 45-70.
