The_Kat
I'll be heading to Kevin's either tomorrow afternoon or Friday evening to spend the weekend hunting with him. Hope to get some redemption from my last trip down there when my peep twisted on my biggest archery buck that I've had dead to rights. Look for some updates, and if Big Foot eats me it was nice knowing yall!:laser:

MCH
Well morning number one is in the books! We had a really good morning. I started it off by missing a nice 8 point at 35 yards 15 minutes after daylight. He came in behind me and I judged him to be 40. Shot right over his back. Kyle was up a tree about 50 yards from me and was in the process of texting me when he heard the shot. He caught a glimpse of the deer but neither one of us got another shot at him. Thirty minutes later, a small doe comes walking up from my right(Kyle's to my left). I start motioning to him and he thinks I'm telling him that there's a deer behind him. Anyway, the doe suddenly starts rubbing a tree about 20 yards from my stand.......not a doe. The little bugger had 1/2 inch spikes on his head. Kyle finally catches a glimpse of him before he walks off away from us. About 9:15, I hear some deer bust off behind Kyle. I glance over in time to see a HUGE buck chasing a doe off away from us. He's growling and dogging her all over the place. She starts to walk back towards me, but he charges her and they take off straight away from us. I turn towards Kyle and watch him glassing the area that the buck and doe ran to with his rangefinder. Suddenly, I realize that he's not glassing the buck and doe, he's watching a small doe 20 yards in front of him. I'm wondering why he's not shooting and come to find out, it was a small button buck that was running with the doe. Kyle had a small forked horn sneak in on him around 9:45 and that was it for the deer action. We plan on heading back out at 2 and hunt a spot about 100 yards north of where we were this morning. We liked having two sets of eyes in the same woods, so we're going to try it again. In the morning, we're heading back to the spot we hunted this morning. Tominator
We just got back from eating and shopping at Wally-world(Kyle had to get some personals:D). Did that little visitor pop up again Kyle? Dang. Thanks for the update. I think Andrus created a monster with all these live hunts.
c_lou
Sounds like the action is hot and heavy. Hope both of you can get some backstraps on the ground.

MCH
Well, guys, this morning was one of those hunts that I'll remember for a lifetime. It started out with above average temps(60's). I had skeeters on me before 7 o'clock. At around 8, I heard movement behind me and I turned to see a spike buck making his way in between Kyle and I. The buck was older and had a rather odd looking spike and was one of the cull bucks with genetics that are fairly common on our lease, so Kyle was going to shoot it. But the buck never offered a shot and ended up walking away from us. At around 9, we got to watch another "chase". A big buck ran a doe across in front of us at about 100 yds. They stayed around for a little while, teasing us into thinking they could walk by. Twenty minutes later, a buck appeared 80 yds out and had taken up the duo's trail. I heard him grunt softly a few times so I grabbed my grunt call and let out a few loud grunts. The stopped, looked in my direction and let out a loud grunt. Then he started walking towards me, or so I thought. I turned around and gave Kyle the nod and grabbed my bow, but the buck disappeared. I'm pretty sure he followed the other two's trail. At 9:40, I hear something walking behind me. I turn to see a huge buck making his way in about 80 yards out. It appears that he would make his way within shooting distance of Kyle. I stand up and start waving at him to get his attention. Suddenly the buck changes directions and starts a route closer to me. I move my EZ Hanger out of way and draw. He hits a shooting lane at around 30 yards and I let out a soft grunt. He stops. I shoot and my arrow finds its mark right behind his shoulder. The buck bolts and my heart races. Meanwhile, Kyle starts shaking. He had thought the buck had already passed my shooting lane and was thinking that he was going to get a shot. He was attaching his release when he heard me grunt. He looked in time to see my arrow hit the deer. From Kyle's perspective, it looked like a great shot. We waited an hour and got down to check the trail. Found my arrow broke in half about 10 yards from the shot. Found good blood and followed......long story short, we spent 4 hours and exhausted all possibilities on finding the buck. Although, the hunt ended badly, I had more fun on this set of hunts than I've ever had. Kyle and I witnessed a lot of action and shared a couple of misses(mine). He wasn't able to draw back, but I've invited him back down in December to fill a tag or two. BTW--I estimate the buck at 130 but Kyle got a better look at it and he says it was at least 145. I'm heading out after tomorrow's hunt to look some more.
The_Kat
Definitely was an exciting weekend. Got to hear my first ever buck ROAR as they call it. Had several chances to take a few smaller bucks and was gonna take a thick ole spiker but a few twigs made me weary of the shot. I learned my lesson on squeezing shots through brush on a doe in October. Then the bruiser came in and all the while I am begging this joker to come in going plz don't shoot kevin, plz lol!!!! Then I heard the grunt as Kev stopped him and was like CRAP! But as soon as I saw the arrow shoot out the other side of this monster I was pumping my fist like a wild man. Ya wanna talk about an awesome angle to see a shot on a deer. Get between the deer and the archer.....it was cool. I was so sure of Kevins shot, and the blood trail we followed was awesome. Then it just QUIT. I can't believe it still and hate to lose this guy. Regardless I'm glad to have gotten to share this weekend with Kevin. Thats is what hunting is all about folks. It ain't about putting that bruiser on the wall ( though it would be nice ), but its about time spent with family and good friends in the woods and the experience. I'll never forget today as long as I live.....one for the books! Thanks again Kev and chin up bud!
