tedicast
Re: which muzzeloader? A lot of it is personal preference. Not sure what price range you are looking in, but you can't go wrong with the TC Omega, or the TC Encore. I personally have an Encore, and I love it. What fits you, and suits you though remains personal-- so at the very least you might seek to hold one to your shoulder before buying blind. AJ
Re: which muzzeloader? No question about it, the Savage 10 ML II is one of (if not THE) strongest ML on the market. They shoot great and are the most versitile.

smallmunster
Re: which muzzeloader? Here is another vote for the savage. My brother got one and I really like it, topped it off with a Bushnell elite 4200 2.5-10X40 and it works great for him. If I can swing it I am going to get one and my other brother is planning on it as well.
Guest bronco_mudder
Re: which muzzeloader? My vote is for the T/C Omega. I'm sure the Savage is a good product, but to me there is something missing from muzzeloading when you can use smokeless powder.
superguide
Re: which muzzeloader? My neighbor got a new Savage for X-mas and brought it over to show us-Ty got out his Omaga and after lifting it once and shouldering it-she was an Omega convert. So my vote goes to the TC Omega it's just very well designed and a pleasure to shoot.
Guest RandyWakeman
Re: which muzzeloader? [ QUOTE ] price dont matter I just want a quality gun my leadman at work brought his encore intoday and its sweet but do i need the encore? [/ QUOTE ] There is at least one well-shot example of every well-known brand of in-line on the market today, here. If you want a made in USA muzzleloader that shoots like a real rifle, the Savage 10ML-II is it. The Accutrigger puts every other muzzleloading trigger to shame, it is the most inexpensive to own and operate, and one of the softest shooting inlines on the market. When you spend more time cleaning your gun than you do your deer, things are in the wrong order. The Savage will not set your scope on fire like a few inlines do, you have no noisy hammer to pull back, and the basis for its design is simple-- a Savage magnum barrel married to the Savage short-action. Once my 76 year-old Dad started shooting his, he was hooked for good. Swamphunter
Re: which muzzeloader? I have the TC Thunderhawk and am very happy with it. My next purchase though is going to be the Omega. What sucks is all of my ml's are .54 cal and its tough to find .54 cal supplies as easily anymore. Seems everything is made for a .50 cal. That will also be my next caliber.

Slugger
Re: which muzzeloader? My vote is for the t/c omega. I have one in .45 cal. it shoots great and is as easy to clean as any muzzleloader on the market. as for the trigger I have a savage varmit rifle with the accutrigger and i have to say it is very good i would not say it is "better" than that on the omega. it is about 2lbs and the omega is about 3.5-4lbs. Yes the accutrigger is lighter but that doesnt make it better. the omega is just as crisp and has no freetravel. Just my .02 bottom line is get what you want and what fits you the best. I for one would not bash any muzzle loader made by a popular manufacture these days. they are all quality guns.
DannoBoone1
Re: which muzzeloader? [ QUOTE ] but to me there is something missing from muzzeloading when you can use smokeless powder. [/ QUOTE ] Ya got THAT right!! I really miss obscuration of the target (deer) for a few seconds (deer can move FAST) after firing. I really miss the missed opportunity of watching the deer go down with a great shot. And most of all, I really, REALLY miss the absolute necessity of cleaning the rifle prior to retiring for the night after a long, successful day of hunting! AJ
Re: which muzzeloader? [ QUOTE ] Danno your missing something else too, the point. [/ QUOTE ] Well, I think you don't understand his. If you use Pyrodex, Triple 7, or any of the other "substitutes" for black powder, its no different than using smokeless. You either use black powder or you use a substitute. Plain and simple. Guest bronco_mudder
Re: which muzzeloader? AJ, Danno stated the differnces important to him, and made the point that his prefernce is to smokeless because he doesn't like the smoke. Not that using a black powder substitute is the same as using smokeless powder. I can see by reading the many posts you have in here that you have a great wealth of knowledge about firearms. So in saying that, I think that you know that using a black powder substitute, all though not tradtional like black powder itself, a shooter still has to deal with many of the same things that regular black powder shooters would. too_pointer
Re: which muzzeloader? I wouldn't change, myself. The smoke is just part of muzzleloading to me. I even miss the sulfer smell since I changed to 777. To each his own as far as I'm concerned. I will never put anybody down for what he prefers. I shoot what I want, plain and simple too_pointer

Guest RandyWakeman
Re: which muzzeloader? [ QUOTE ] Randy I enjoyed your video clips. What type of load and bullet was your father shooting? [/ QUOTE ] 45 gr. Accurate Arms 5744 and a .40 / 50 260 grain Dead Center. My Dad likes the Savage because it is a soft shooter, and soon to be 77 with a pacemaker, etc., he does not feel the need to bruise himself or to play macho-man any longer. Raising 5 kids was enough! (Mom had something to do with that, I believe.) Guns are either working hunting tools for my Dad, or collectibles. The nonsense of fantasy role playing with "NEW" non-replica foreign side-locks has always been a horrible, sick joke to him. He's collected firearms all his life-- whether a Brown Bess musket, Springfield Trapdoor, Spencer rifle, Burnside carbine or a 1903A3, he has always collected and shot the genuine article, or just does not care. For hunting guns, he just uses the stuff that has worked for him-- Win '97's, old Ithaca doubles, A-5's, .270 Mausers, older S & W wheelguns, Browning BARs, and now the Savage 10ML-II.
