dogdoc
that's a brute. sorry for the bad luck. Maybe you hit him high enough he'll survive. Did you see any lung blood or just superficial?

stcif
Twice this year my son and I experienced the "hit him high" problem. Good luck. Keep us posted.
Hoyt03
I feel ya. I hit a good one this year too high and the neighbor saw him twice last week. Says he isn't moving too good or alot, but he is still living. He is only about 500 yrds from where he was hit
PotashRLS
Sorry to hear that. Did you get a pass through?
BowTech292
Here's another that hit to high, looked all day to no avail. Waited a week then started buzzard hunt'n, to no avail. That made me feel like he survived, (hope so)
ruttinbuc
That is tough to deal with on a buck like that. I know the feeling! Hopefully you will see him again, Tom.
Ohiobucks
Thanks guys, it does suck bad. The hit was too high, the buck ran off about 60-70 yards with no back legs. Stood in the same spot for 7-10 minutes, slowly got his back legs back under him and walked off. Only got about 5" of penetration...... Told Chris after we looked that my buck tag is filled. I'm not about to hunt for another buck when I hit that one. If he comes down my trail again this year, I'll try again, but I'm not shooting 2 bucks this year. That buck and does only from here on out.
wtnhunt
Man that stinks Tom, sure most of us do know the feeling. Really nice buck there, is his left brow split? Hope you get another shot on him bud.

redkneck
For a brute like that, I'd go back with a good dog and see if we couldnt get back on him.
arrow32
That really stinks! Hope your able to find him or get another chance at him.
The_Kat
Tom, man don't be so hard on yourself. Get out there and smack the next bruiser that walks by. If it happens to be that buck, awesome, if not tag the next one. Losing animals is just a sad reality of hunting, especially bowhunting. I hate it as much as the next guy, but don't beat yourself up. c_lou
Sorry to hear that Tom. It sucks when things don't go as planned. I respect your decision to not shoot another buck.
muggs
I've lost deer before man, mostly doe and that sucked bad enough. It's a tough pill to swallow on a guy like that. You know anybody with a beagle or hound?
Tominator
Yep. Tough to see your buddy go through something like that. Tom's a true sportsman, and I too respect his decision to let the bucks pass. I was in that situation a few years ago and also decided on no bucks. It's just a feeling you get I guess. Having said that, I truly believe that buck is still out walking around. I wasn't there, but I was on the blood trail, and from the looks of it, it was a muscle hit. I'd almost bet Tom hit the back strap, shocked the spinal cord a little, but not enough to break it. Unless a bad infection sets in, that deer is going to survive. Until he walks past me, that is. Hang in there Tommy.

The guy we hunt on is really trying to make this a better place for big bucks. QDM. I told him that was my buck for the year, I just didn't find him. Can't justify going out and shooting another big buck. Can't do it. I'll (try to) take out some frustration on a doe though......
Elk22
The "no mans land"..............I hate it when that happens. I am sure that you do too. Sorry
hoosierhunter
tough call. If he lost his rear end for 7-10 minutes you had to break some vertabrae, but not the spinal cord. I'm actually suprised he didn't bleed out with that hit. I would say he was probably dead not long after. He's gotta lay down and the muscle spasms should keep him down and you gotta figure that something will move and cut into that cord once he gets up to go again. Swelling..... I'm sure you looked everywhere for him, but look for the buzzards now because you might still find him. There wasn't going to be any blood because of the high hit. All internal bleeding..... Dakota
I'm right there with you, Tom; I lost a doe about 10 days ago. She was shot high, too. Dakota

Ohiobucks
He's gotta lay down and the muscle spasms should keep him down..... You know, I said the same thing to Chris before we went out looking, and I got the "look"......like I was out of my mind. :crutch: I'm going back tomorrow afternoon, I want to check a creek bottom that we have found dead deer in before. I'll keep at it....
